Remote turbo kit
Remote turbo kit
i've been looking for a while at the sts turbo kits and after a little research i decided that it doesnt really look that difficult to do. anyone here ever pieced together a kit like this? any ideas, thoughts?
There are a few problems with remote mount kits. The biggest issue is spool I've read that every 12 inches the exhaust gasses have to travel they lose a 3rd of there spooling power. Also as the exhaust gases cool they lose velocity which can slow down there ability to spool, the flowing air under the car cools the exhaust. Also the turbo has to pressurize an extra 10 feet of piping which further hurts spooling. However I imagine the IAT's would be alot lower and i'm sure it will be cheaper and easier to put in and take out. I'm sure it will work fine but will it be superior to a setup right off the manifold i doubt it imho. They have a twin turbo kit for the mustang and that has 2.3 liters going into each turbo so its probably doable just don't go to big on the turbo
somebody has done it on a 2.2, had around 260 ish hp I believe at his boost / tuning levels. All I can remember is that hes from Michigan and has a red cobalt with a body kit and has a video on you tube haha.
yea it's just an idea i've been looking into. i'm not looking for any huge gains just yet as my stock motor has just over 80k and i dont want to put too much boost yet because it's my DD and pulling the motor isn't an option right now if i break it. i'm just looking for a little extra power, somethin to spice it up a bit until i have the time to build the motor which may be a while
