So I Was Thinking About Forced Induction...

Well i was thinking today, why is it that there has been no recent additions to the forced induction game, like superchargers/turbochargers have been in use since the world wars, and there has not been a "third" party to join the forced induction game...of course there is twin turbo/pro charging and such...but no new forms of forced induction...im just curious because with the ever expanding technolgy of the day..why dont we have more forms of F/I?

thinking out loud again...hopefully this sparks some interesting thought provoking conversation.

forced induction..there is turbochargers and superchargers correct? well..those two applications have been used for many many years and is "old technolgy" why has no one came up with new/more iniovated ways of forced induction? why are we still useing old technolgy when it seems everything else about the internal combustion engine is upgrading itself?

he's saying right now there are only turbochargers and superchargers to force air into your engine. with all the technology when are they going to come out with a new way to force air into your engine.

They'll sooner come up with new engines than new ways to stuff air into old ones.

whwat else could there be? electric supercharging has been done and failed......theres nothing else to really shove into the engine but more air ..and superchargers and turbo's already do that so good why would u need another way

JET ENGINE AFTERBURNER TECHNOLOGY

your thinking to "inside the box". i think we need to think outside of the box..some other form of getting air into a engine..

sorry if i sound stupid..i had a few drinks.

I still don't understand, there have been lots of advancements in the way turbos/superchargers are designed/built and the power they produce.

I guess I don't understand what other ways an engine could force air besides exhaust gases or belt driven... I suppose maybe some form of electric powered devices could be considered "new"

well i agree, i cant think of any other ways ether..but how come no one else has thought of any other ways? i am sure there are ways out there no one has thought off..think of all the advancements now adays that people 20 years ago would have never thought of...

oh ok...fair enough...

i dunno...what about friction to control forced induction somehow...like how those new eletric cars will be running off of friction caused by braking and ****..so many different possiblites..

who knows it COULD happen? u never know..i mean they gotta change the way cars run soon maybe they'll have some chemical it can run on on a jet engine and everyone flys everywhere like the jetsons..damn that was a cool show when i was kid

nah i don't really see taht working too well because friction = material being taken off each time theres friction like brake pads typa thing so a system reliant on friction would just be unreliable cause it would just rub through or w/e

I have always thought about each cylinder having it's own little fan (electric, belt driven, or gas driven) but instead of one big one like a turbo or supercharger, why not a bunch of little ones or one for each cylinder. I have not even a spec of an idea as to how that would work. But i've always thought it would be pretty cool.

ya but the only prob with that too is the fact that if one breaks..ur kinda screwed ..its basically just another 3 things to go wrong as apposed ot haveing 1 thing go wrong and replacing that...its easier for you or the mechanic to replace 1 large than 3 small..besides if one is working better than the other? sure u'd notice which one but it would prob screw up ur engine more
