Supercharging the 2.2 Auto

now i think someone has supercharged an auto before, and possibly the 2.2 as well.

well my question first is can it be done, which im pretty sure it can be.

and second, about how much would it run me to supercharge the 2.2 automatic.. just as far as parts i.e. supercharger etc.... just want to get an idea about superchargin it, i want to look into it after i pay my credit card..

Yeah of course, the 2.2s can be supercharged, but due to how the engine was built, you won't get more power out of a 2.2 than an LSJ 2.0. I personally don't think its worth introducing forced induction onto a 2.2, its just not worth the time or money.. but you're lookin at maybe between 1500 and 2500 for that kind of project.

while i agree the 2.2L CAR is not a good car to try and turn into a performance vehicle, the 2.2L block is a very good motor to modify. He will actually make more HP with the 2.2L compared to the 2.0L PSI to PSI. The 2.2L has a large displacement and higher compression, both will serve to make more HP per PSI than the LSJ. The 2.2L is also a very strong motor, 250WHP daily driver for that motor is fine. He should be able to supercharger it for around 1,000 bucks. And yes you can supercharger an auto, automatics make great transmissions for forced induction cars because they dont loose boost between gear shifts and are generally can take more HP than manuals.

WRONG...Gm did a test on a 2.2 motor and all of the rods blew out the engine at 254 HP...250p daily driver...all you need is for some good gas and a nice perfect weather day and your motor blows

I agree that if you through a stock sc setup off an sc onto a 2.2 you will show slightly higher stock numbers then a ss/sc...but you need some internal support mods to not blow things

But IIRC the GM test involved a straight up 150 hit of nitrous.

doesnt matter...that was one run and at 254 all blew simultaniosly...so repeated day to day abuse at 250+ and you run a HIGH risk of blowing something...

they blew the rods at 284hp, not 254... thats why GM rated the rods for 250hp, but its rated for 250bhp, not whp you can probably get 270bhp out of them on a daily driver using FI (nitrous kills our rods), but thats pushing it.

Yeah i dont like the stock rods. Wanna see mine? hehe... Granted i did throw about 20+psi, approx 300whp down on them for a breif amount of time then realized i was overboosting. I then tried to fix my actuator but the line kept blowing off and i couldnt find a clamp small enough to keep it on. Later on that night i was cruising onto the freeway staying outta boost and my motor decided the cought out rod 3.

You shouldnt have a problem supercharging on the stock LSJ setup. Keep with the stock pulley or drop no lower then a 3.0" and you should be good. Just tune it right. Thats the thing you have to worry about.

284 whp or crank hp??? i dont know what this "b" hp is...cause 284 bhp is less then equal to 250 whp...cause that is only an 10.6% drivetrain loss and that is WAY less then what we actually experiance...i dont know what the exact figures are but i have heard everything from 18%-23% loss from crank to wheel....

there is a huge difference between boost and nitrous and how well the motor can handle it. I have seen pleanty of 260+WHP 2.2L ecotecs is Cavaliers that are run as daily drivers with no problems.

I love how stupid people on this website are, all they do is repeat what everyone else and GM says. Like a bunch of ******* parriots. Sweet GM blew it up at 254HP, there was a guy on jbody.org who just slapped a huge turbo on a stock l61 block and ran 25+ PSI for over 30+ runs down the drag strip running low 11's before it blew. And his whole intention was to blow the motor to see how strong it really was.
