Exclamation TD04HL-15t Saab Turbo on 2006 Chevy Cobalt ls

I went by U-Pull-It this last weekend and found a 2000-2002 Saab 9-3 with the turbo still in it. So I spent an hour pulling the turbo out and bought it for 70 bucks. I was thinking that if I couldnt put it in my 2006 Chevy Cobalt ls that I could just sell it on ebay for about 200 bucks. What I'm wondering is if this turbo will fit in my car. Also, if it will what size tubing, headers, and etc I should buy for it. I believe its a 42mm turbo. I also pulled the stock wastegate. Please let me know if it will fit and what I need to set it up. If it doesn't then ill just post it on ebay. Thanx, Colton

If you are going turbo you should probably read the forced induction build threads in the L61 section to get a better idea of what all you are gonna need and what size turbo you should use.

Ill look at that thread. If its too much work then ill just sell it. When I pulled the turbo out I didn't really even think about the exhuast manifold. I was just too excited about getting a cheap turbo. If I decide to put in on my car Ill probably just go back and get everything else. But it being a 20 year old car I really wanted to get all new tubing, and headers, and everything. thanx for the help

that turbo would work fine they can make 300hp efficiently. I have a 900s and thats the turbo i'm switching to next week. It's bolt on for me but you'll need a t25 flanged turbo manifold in order for that to bolt up. Stock wastegate should work fine too I think they're 7-8 psi factory, but don't quote me on that.

ok thanx. im rlly excited to hear that all i need is the t25 manifold to make it work. should i go back and get anymore parts from the car if i can find them? The intercooler was in great condition but i didnt really look at the piping. Or should I just buy new headers, piping, intercooler and bov?

Technically a 4 cylinder doesn't have "headers". We have one header or exhaust manifold. Or in this case a turbo manifold.

There is a chance the car you pulled the turbo from will have a turbo manifold that would fit our engines. You would still need piping, intercooling, custom downpipe, and a lot of little bits and pieces to get it to work on your car.

Research Research Research, before starting this project. You are likely to run into a lot of road blocks. Maybe not though.

You can use that intercooler sure. It does the job for that size turbo. The piping i believe is 2'' maybe 2 1/4. Just measure the compressor outlet and use that size piping. You don't have to place your maf in line with your charge piping either. I just turbo'd an ls and his maf is still pre-turbo. He just put down 233 on 12 psi. You'll still need oil lines of course but get new oil lines. You'll need the fitting zzp sells for that and have someone tap or weld a bung in your oil pan. Get some #42 injectors and a tune from vince at trifecta. That turbo manifold on the saab will probably fit, but again don't quote me do some research on that

Alright well Ive looked up everything I need. And over time I think i can make this happen. Theres intercooler kits on ebay for like 200 bucks, but ive had experience with weird name brand products and ive had to custom fit them to my car. (example: my intake). But if its not too much work I rlly dont mind rather then spending a good 500 and up for a name brand. The turbo manifold is about 250. the custom downpipe is about 250, and then the bov, boost controller, gauges, and etc should be another couple of hundred (if i cheaply shop) then theres a tuning shop called Carteck Tuning down the street from where i work. Do yall think its work it? or should I just sell the turbo and spend all that money on like a complete turbo kit with everything in it??

Btw, the tuning shop charges 150 for a test and tune
