Turbo to Twincharge. Questions

I wanna go twin charge. Haven't sold anything I need yet so I'm happy about that. What all do I need for this setup other than bolting the stock intake manifold back on, pump, hoses, and supercharger? I know there is some kind of bypass valve i need so the supercharger can just basically free spin after doing it's job. I saw on zzp's web site their kit comes with 2 manual boost controllers. I'm not running one now just straight wastegate so I probably only need one for the blower I'm guessing.

What else do I need?!? I still have the bug, haha and the lag is killing me. I miss the power whenever you want it.

I think I have most of the hard stuff out of the way with the turbo and all the fab work done and buttoned up. And all the issues with the turbo are the best they are going to get so i think this is my answer. I just need to press the stock pulley back on and make a dual pass so I feel a little better about cooling. It won't really get hot anyways because if im understanding this correctly once the turbo spools...which is almost instantly, the blower isn't really doing anything anymore- therefore creating no more heat.

Just looking for some input on this one

Yah I do not think there are many twincharged guys at all.

Basically for my twincharge build I got a stock blower pulley and belt (since I am not turbo'd yet). My turbo kit is waiting to get put on just gotta break the motor in.

I am going to try to not have a boost controller for the blower because the computer "should" be able to do that thru bypass controls (easier said then done I heard). I believe this is easily done thru 1st and 2nd but 3-5 are a little different since it doesnt have an option in HPT to reduce boost in those gears. Once I get my car dialed in from my engine build I am going to start playing with the tune and see if I can get it to work.

From what you say yes you will need the stock IM, blower, stock pulley, stock belt, pump, dual pass is good, tubing, H/E. Basically everything you had stock, except injectors, plugs, etc., (since those will be upgraded obviously) then the turbo kit.

You are going to want to spend some time on the dyno if you actually get this done. Play with the boost controller or bypass in the tune to get the best curve. Tuning should be fun!

There is probably something I missed.

If you wanna go twincharge, thats great there isnt a lot so you would be 1 of very few to do this, you will make very good power

No lag = victory lol

waate of time and money. modern ball bearing turbos have very little lag now a days. rip that supercharger off and bolt on a gt30r or a gt35r with a smaller exhaust housing. i believe 63 a/r exhaust housing will be suitable for low rpm spool up. guy at my work is running the gt35(non ball bearing) with the same exhaust housing on his 97 audi a4 1.8 and it spools quickly. his last dyno run with race fuel was 500 rwhp at 22 psi boost at 5600 rpm.

Not really waste of time or money. He already has all the components for it except a few cheap things. He does not have a BB turbo he has T3/T4 (or in that area) 60 trim that spools slow. He is compensating for the lag with the blower. Why not do it?

Exactly what I was thinking. I just need some good solid answers here. And if I don't like the twin charge I can always take it off sell my parts and get at gt35 or twin scroll or something that spools better. But for now I can spool this one with a blower! I don't wanna use the stock bypass unit either. Never liked that thing. What I don't get is how can you bypass the supercharger boost without letting out the boost the turbo is making as well?

Think I'm gonna e-mail zzp and see what they say about it

Tuning is easier than I thought. I picked it up fast. Is he gonna make you pay for the credits or no?

ya but i have two issues im working on.

1. being the blower has a 2.8 lol so a 3.35 is on the way should be here by fri (blower came with 2.8)

2. my hot side on my turbo is too small now and it builds boost instantly. so i have a .70 a/r hot side on the way should be here by mon. i have a .55 a/r s256 right now.

other than that it runs and drives fine it just over boosts like crazy cuz of those things. i hit 30+ psi a few times on accident while trying to make it work.

but i have the wastegate spring out for now and bypass opening and its coming along great, i just need to be patient with it. i should of had those things to start but i had the chance to swap some parts with someone local so i tried to make what i had work for now so i could still drive my car.

I have a 3.35 sitting waiting. If you had that larger pulley do you think it will boost slower so you dont need as large of a hotside?

Bad ass! So was it in the areas of the tune we talked about previous? You did it in all tuning right?

Damn now I am afraid. My hot side is .63

i think the 2.8 is a major factor of why its overboosting. but heres why i say hot side too small.

i was already creeping boost when i was turbo only that hot side was small and a 38mm gate couldent cut it. a bigger gate would of helped but now im twincharge so i just went with the size a/r zzp is using.

but i think maybe try a 3.4-3.5 with your .63 you should be ok. hopefully. the .70 a/r i ordered i hear is quite laggy in turbo only app. which is perfect for me.

but as far as tunning goes its what we talked about. pm me for more info. everything is opening when supposed too its just the s/c seems like it would spool a freaking .106 a/r no prob lol

Yah that is what I am thinking.

I am going to try the stock pulley with the system and see what happens. If I need to go higher I will.

My turbo setup is a .83 next so if I need to I will get that hotside and maybe drop pulleys if I need to spool quicker.

That is crazy about the over boost! hahah I bet your car was like WTF!!!! PE! PE!!!!! hahah

Just get the supercharger parts together and have him walk you through the stuff you dont understand. He seems like he would like to help, if he has time. I will be doing mine within a month if I get my idle corrected. I can help then if not already done.

Hungy:

Do I see a manual boost controller for the SC?
