Two-Speed Supercharger
I just happened to come across this..A two-speed supercharger, "allowing the effieciency of the supercharger to remain high at all engine speeds." Since im not too knowledgable on F/I, I was wondering if some of you guys can explain if this would actually work..

It is for a centrifacal S/C which typically has lag like a turbo. Pretty good idea, but in my opinion it would lead to more parasitic drag and more parts to wear/fail.
Just stick to a postive displacement S/C, like a roots or twin screw, and you won't have to worry about it.

I agree with ^. That thing looks like it'll cost out the ass. Plus I think with the little "tranny" they got in there it'll lead to a lot more parasitic drag. dunno. I'd have to see it in action before I make any judgements. But it does look extremely expensive. If it's not, then I'll really think it's a scam.

cf superchargers do lag, power usually doesn't start coming on good till about 3500 rpm but with a 2 speed gearbox esentially doubling the speed of the cf it would come into power at about 1700rpm eliminating the lag and with the second gear ratio it could keep it from overspinning high in the engines rev range therefore pulling like all hell essenially from idle until redline. If this is true and does work out id consider it over the stock blower

The small supercharged Mercedes Benz engines use a clutch on the compressor, much like an AC compressor. Then on the other end they have a boost control solenoid like we have. It's not really a 2 speed so much as it's an off/on switch, meaning no parasitic loss from the compressor when it's not needed.

The Milennia S also turns off...

2 speed superchargers were used during the 2nd war on Spitfires(Merlin Engines)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolls-Royce_Merlin
you can read down there :
Supercharger: Two-speed two-stage, boost pressure automatically linked to the throttle, water-air aftercooler installed between the second stage and the engine.
