Okay so owning my 06 SS for the last 8 years has told me when I'm really low on gas I can squeeze in around 12.4 gallons. I believe the manual says the tank is 12.3 gal. Last night my mileage indicator said I could go 7 more miles, so basically it's empty right? Well I pumped in 13.3 gallons.

Anyone else ever manage to pump in that much fuel? I'm starting to think that gas station is rigged. Something smells fishy! Just wondered what everyone else's cars can take at the pump.

 

It is 13.5 completely dry.

The tank and DIC are designed to leave about 1 gallon in the tank. The fuel pump relies on being sumberged to keep cool. If you keep running your tank that low you WILL fry the fuel pump rather quickly.

 

I was kinda thinking the DIC was set to run out with a reserve, cause one time I really stretched it trying to get home it said I had 0 miles remaining yet I made it 5 miles more to the next gas station. I drove 110 miles a day for work for 5 years and every 3-4 days I was running it close to dry. I am still amazed the stock fuel pump has lasted 195k miles. I'm pretty impressed with my ecotec!!

 

Running out of gas is not fun

 

I've actually never done it in my 20 years of driving. I've been REALLY close a couple times. One car was literally stumbling into the station off an exit ramp. But when you drive 600 miles a week for work, you find ways to stretch it so you don't have to stop every 2.5 days to fill up.

 

It happened to me once in a company car with a broken gas gauge because the ******* who drove it before me didn't fill the tank like he was suppose to

 

Lol. If I was getting in a car with a gas gauge not working and had no idea how many miles were on it, I would've filled it up first thing.

 

Yes I should of done that

 

Oh and definately dont floor it when under like 1/4 tank it can cause lean spikes, no bueno
