06 Cobalt SS Sedan vs. Corolla XRS

I posted this on j-body but I really meant to post it here for you guys. *doh* Anyways....

Anyone got some comparisons on these vehicles? Anyways, my mom just got the XRS, and I was looking into that car for a while but something stopped me. And I'm looking into the Cobalt SS as my next vehicle, but I must admit, the XRS is very nice. I think it's a great improvement over the Corolla S. Anyone got any points that can help point me in the right direction? Other than "It's a Toyota, it will have a better re-sale". I'm looking for specs. They're both about the same price, the Cobalt has more torque but the XRS has a 6-speed. How is the interior of the Cobalt SS (for those that have seen it), the XRS looked professional, not plasticy (even though I know it is, it just didn't look like it)

I don't believe these cars have been tested yet so you may have to wait. However, from what I've heard about the XRS, the car didn't get great reviews. Even though the 1.8L makes 180 hp, you need to get the revs up (similiar to the RSX idea) to get any real power out of it. Handling wise, I think the SS would blow it away. If you're looking at an XRS then I would recommend the Matrix or Vibe GT. These cars handle better and are pretty quick.

It's actaully more like 171 HP in the XRS and you REQUIRE PREMIUM fuel to get that number (even the Vibe GT needs premium). So it would be an interesting comparison.

From what i remember the XRS runs a 0-60 in 7 secs and mid 15's in the 1/4. I think it was road and track or car and driver, one of those mags, not a Sport companct mag. And i wouldn't be so sure about the handling being better in the cobalt especially with a curb weight of 2670lbs and will pull .83-.86 later g's.

Found it...you're pretty bang-on with the numbers. Good memory!!

Edit: It's interesting to note that there's a ad for the Cobalt right next to the article

strange that the large 2.4L (with longer stroke) redlines higher then the 2.0L S/C

Nice to see GM getting the redline higher again. Old HO Qauds 4's were 6850rpm ans there was a W41--195hp version with a 7400rpm redline!!! Then when the 2.4L Twincam came out (had balance shafts) it was nuetured toa 6200rpm redline. Sad for an OHC 4 valve per cyl engine
