06 ss s/c test drive

Well I went to the dealership the other day to check out an ss s/c cause there are very few running around here and I wanted to just check it out. Well it turned out that they had just gotten an 06 in with 11 miles. I really liked the color of it and the wing wasn't as gaudy as I thought previously. The interior on the dash I liked, but the seats and doors...well anyways. I ended up taking it for a test drive. Didn't rev it past 4500 rpms cause I'm not an ass. But it does pull nicely but not quite as much as I had expected. The supercharger was not as loud as I had expected either. And when I was driving it my head was touching the ceiling . I'm 6'2" so I'm not that big. O yea and the reverse thing took me a while to figure out . But overall I do like it, they are nice cars. And I was wondering does the 06 cobalt ss s/c come with 205 hp as well?

If you wanna call it stock 205hp go ahead, GM underrated it for the most part, more like 210whp for most stock dyno's I've seen posted. Anyway, from my knowledge, the only real difference is the swap of Arrival blue to Laser blue, and the GM badge on the front frenders and relocated SS badges to the bottom of the door. All visual changes, performance remains the same, as far as I know.

I noticed the badges and stuff, I didn't really like them that much. And I didn't know the change of color. Is the new blue darker or lighter?

It is a 4cyl S/C not a V8 S/C uless your WOT @ 4500 it won't be pulling hard or making a whole lot of noise.

Well I did a few WOT runs but not past 4500 rpms. I had just read in a post that the supercharger sound was hard to miss while racing one.

Well there's your problem. Maximum torque is at 4400RPM. You're cutting the gas right at the peak pulling power of the car. It would just be starting to show you what it's got with WOT throttle through the 4-5K RPM mark.

If you're in second gear and give it WOT through 4-5K you can't tell me you won't feel the car pull pretty good. You simply didn't experience the peak pull of the car in my opinion. Also, the car certainly seems to have more pull after it's broken in. My car feels like it has more power now than when I test drove the SS.

yeah please don't the judge the car till you've at least pulled 1st and 2nd WOT you see how the car pulls then. Also I'm happy and sad that i can't hear the super charger whine all the time right now but when your really pushing the car you can hear it thats what counts.

Well hes just giving his honest opinion based on how he drove it, nothing wrong with that.

The SC is pretty quiet until 2nd gear, I opened up my airbox so I can hear it a lot better now.

If you want the car to impress you, you gotta try a few wot's to redline. If I drove the SRT4 under 4500rpm I'm sure I wouldn't get much pull either though.

I did do a WOT run from 1st-3rd but shifting at 4500. I know it is gonna pull harder up top because most cars do have most power at the higher rpms. Thats why I wanna find one ariound here on the streets as well.

You would have gotten a better ride by not going WOT and running the RPMs up. its not the RPMs that hurt the break in period its the hard accerations. GM says no WOT take offs for the 1st 500 miles they dont say anything as far as the RPMs at least not in owners manual. Of course I drove like I stole it for the first 50 miles then started to baby it for the next 450.

Yea I figured that cobalts had something like that but never found it. And also, it is actually good for a brand new car to be given a few good hard runs within the first 50 miles. But not over revving it past like 5000 rpms or so. It helps the piston rings set correctly which in turn makes the car perform better later on.
