1st Snowbalt Experience

Weeeeeelllll. Yesterday was fun. 1st big snow in Chicago this year! FTL! >=( (I don't have enough for snow tires, and I won't be here long enough to really get my money worth)

Well, before I left, it started snowing a bit, but I didn't think anything of it, as all the roads were VERY clear.

So, i clean it off and go about my way, being VERY wary of what i've read about other's snow experience and how the pirelli's SUCK in the winter. I didn't believe it at first, I was like, "It can't be that bad! I'll drive careful and I will be okay...." Oh my....I know can attest...the tires make kittens explode!

So I go to work, and expect the snow to stop before I get out, and I don't think it would be bad. Come out of a 7 hour shift and I saw now cobalt....but my brand new 2007 Chevrolet Snowbalt SS Supercharged.

So, I clean it off...and while I clean it off...MY ******* CAR BRUSH BREAKS! So I am pissed, but a nice female co worker comes over and helps me out, and I go on my way home.

Long story short, it turns a 40 minute trip into almost 2 hours! I even saw Evo's and STi's having issues. I saw a mazda 3 (non speed) cruising through traffic with his winters on....made me sad. But I go over my friends house to spend the night and play rock band (2 other Team 4 Bangin' members). But bucking into the parking spot in front of my friend's cobalt....I smelt a little something burning...I STARTED TO ******* BURN UP MY CLUTCH (very, very little). but I was so pissed I wanted to cry, but I park, go in, forget my worries for the night, and play rock band until like 5 am. I get up this morning...to this:

(This is AFTER I cleaned the car up partially too)

My right side:

My friend's mom cleaned off HIS car, but not mine (sitting 2 feet in front of it)

Broken Brush:

And guess what, getting out of the snow today, I burned up my clutch a little bit more!

Driver mod > me

I felt for my baby, and I wanted to slap myself for the abuse, but the roads were dry so she could be taken easy on the way home.

And to top it off....I broke 1K miles:

Yay for Snake's first Snowbalt experience! YAY!

(hope the snow ******* melts otherwise I am taking the dad's trailblazer to work today)

Got mine a week before Thanksgiving, drove it half of the next week, and went back to school for 3 weeks, then came back last Wednesday from school.

Well at least this was your experience. Not that you couldn't stop and slipped into someone.

Very true, but it was bed. It was like "slip n' slide" out there.

i've had mine since the end of june and already have well over 10,000 miles on it. it was sitting at 15 when i picked it up. anyway, i know how you feel with the snow. we've got a little noreaster on our hands here so driving to work only to be sent home an hour later sucked big time. roads we barely touched by plows so i was all over the place.

I drove in the same storm last night/this morning... my first time in the snow with mine as well. I gotta say, though, I was actually impressed with the car in the snow. Maybe it's because I'm used to my 2wd S10 always spinning and going sideways on me... I don't know. All I do know is that front wheel drive is a hell of a lot easier to handle in this weather.
You got limited slip? If not, maybe thats why you had such a hard time?

i really don't seem to be experenceing the same problems all of you are. Mine does fine with stock tires on the wear bars.

Keep it out of the boost and you will be fine....

Tollllllllllllld ya you were gonna wish you had snows. Don't get too down on the car, it's seriously an entirely different beast with snow tires on. I've pulled right in my sloped driveway with about twice the snow in the last pic, no problems, no sliding, no burnt up clutch.

Are u sure it was clutch burn you smelled? It was prolly the exhaust pipes burning something off . The tires are going to spin so easy that the clutch isn't going to have enought friction against it to burn . My opinion anyways .

Not good to gun it out of the snow like that. Its like reving the motor. I blew up my transmission on an 88 olds cutlass cierra like that. We just got a **** ton of snow today and it sucks. DO snow tires really make that much of a difference? I know here in ohio we are NOT allowed to use studded tires.

I believed you when you told me. I'm not getting down on the car at all. I don't love it any less than i did before, just wish I had snow tires. I am not gunna be home long enough though, to really get my money worth.

I do want a LSD though!!!!

Really? this is good. The smell came into the cabin though..can exhaust do that? And I could smell it outside too. And my car was a klittle shakey on certain roads (this stopped after a while)

What makes you think I 'gunned' it out of the snow? I didn't. I felt it spinning, I didn't just WOT it, I kept it in moderation until I got out of the snow like that.

Some of us don't have multiple cars. Some of us have to work with one car!

Snow tires dont' have to be studded. Mine aren't. And yes, they do make that much of a difference. The ONLY thing that I haven't been able to get through was about a 15 degree incline covered in two inches of solid ice.....and good luck to anyone on that crap. Everything else has been a cakewalk. I run high performance all seasons mud & snow tires (Pzero Nero) and I still use dedicated snow tires that I ran the first winter I had the car.
