We had a car scheduled to come in, but the owner had to cancel at the last minute. We're trying to get things rescheduled. If you know of someone in the Atlanta are let us know and we'll see who comes through first.

That would depend on the application. Example, I have the 2.2L and the stock cat has an inlet that is close to 2" OD (outside diameter of the pipe) and the outlet is just under a 2" OD. This unit from Random Technology would increase my flow significantly more over my stock unit. I know that the 2.0SS uses a larger cat. but I'm not sure what inlet and outlet sizes it has our what it flows. I suppose we'll have to wait and see. Just remember a direct fit downpipe that is stainless steel from the company that pioneered high flow cat. technology.

Exclamation Update As Of 5-30-06

I got a reply from Random Technology today:

Scott-

Thanks for the information. I have a Cobalt SS (supercharged) scheduled for June 15 plus or minus a day. If that doesn't work out, I'll contact Wes. The only issue with using someone's personal vehicle is that we need the car for 3 to 4 days and some people can't turn loose of their vehicle for that long.

Dave

Just wanted to keep everyone up to date on the progress.

Are you talking about a bolt-in replacement downpipe? I might be interested in a new 2.5" stainless steel downpipe with high-flow cat, depending on the pricing. I would have a total boner for that ZZP downpipe if it weren't for the fact that it's 3". It might be cheaper and easier to to just buy a universal high-flow cat and get a good shop to custom fabricate what I need done though. But I'm willing to wait and see what Random can do for us before I decide.

YES, that's right a direct bolt in replacement for the OE downpipe; it will be 2.5" stainless steel with a Random Technology High Flow Cat (the pioneers of high flow performance cats). It will bolt directly between the exhaust manifold (or shorty header) and the cat-back. I'll keep everyone posted as more develops.

Thumbs up New from Random Technology

Thought everyone would be interested in this update:

Scott--

I thought you might be interested-- The Cobalt SS came in on schedule June 15th. We're just finishing up the converter and are also developing a 2-3/4" stainless cat-back system. We should have price and availability information shortly.

Don't feel bad, I run no Cats in both of my cars. Does the Cobalt get a CEL from it though?

Arrow More Info from Random Tehcnology

Yes, we will get a CEL without a cat and as far as I know, there aren't any 02 simulators yet available.

I wrote to ask if I could get it unpolished b/c I don't need anything nice and pretty under my car. I also would like for it to look somewhat OE. I am hoping they will decide to offer them in both polished and unpolished. Dave wrote back with some other info I inquired about as well.

Scott-

The converter has 2-3/4" inlet and outlet. As far as getting one unpolished, that would actually cost more because we'd have to treat it as a custom. After the converter has been run for a while, it will turn brownish and the polish won't be as evident.

I'm not sure about the interchangeability of parts between 2.0 and 2.2-liter engines either. We'll do some checking and see what we can find. With this converter, it shouldn't be any problem connecting to an SS header (as far as we know).
