As im sure all of you would do anything to keep the balt running in tip top shape . They say every 12,000 i think you "should" get an engine flush. What do you guys think of this ? I have heard mixed things about it . What do you guys think ?
If anyone has done this yet or has good/bad experiences I want to hear about them I was reading through my dealers book and I was thinking about getting it done.
Below is what I guess the engine flush can do? But I didnt know since we run Synthetic If this would be helpful at all.
Oil Changes Are Not Enough
While oil filters remove particulate over 25 microns, sludge, tar, varnish and wear metals less than 25 microns continue to circulate within the engine and accumulate in the passageways, oil pump and oil pan. These contaminates cause engine wear, higher operating temperatures, and reduced lubrication.
Past Procedures Compound the Problem
Simply pouring chemical flush additives into the crankcase is ineffective. Dissolved sludge, particulate and accumulated debris continue to circulate causing significant engine wear.
Bilstein R-2000 Engine Flush System
This environmentally safe system thoroughly cleans your engine by using patented adaptors and specially formulated solutions to dissolve accumulations of sludge, tar, varnish and wear metals.
The process is performed with the engine off. Using pulsating pressures, the Bilstein R-2000 circulates a heated petroleum distillate solution through the oil pump passage ways and reservoir to dissolve sludge.
A perfectly clean engine means better performance, superior fuel economy and longer engine life.
Restore Engine Efficiency with Total Safety
The Bilstein R-2000 Engine Flush System will not harm your engine, ring seating, valve guides or seals. All residual oil and cleaning solutions are evacuated leaving a light mineral oil on critical wear surfaces.
Periodic Engine Cleaning Extends Engine Life
Tests have shown that periodic sludge removal restores operational efficiencies and reduces harmful exhaust emissions. By reducing wear metals and corrosive contaminates a longer engine life can be expected.
Bilstein - Quality and Reliability
Over the decades, Bilstein has established a solid reputation for quality and reliability. Bilstein products are marketed worldwide only after extensive research and testing.

I really don't know too much about this, but my mom had it done, on a newer truck she had, by the dealer. The truck was never the same after it, it had a very noticable rod knock and didn't run to well after. I heard something about the chemicals ruining seals and stuff. But once again, I'm not an expert by any means.
engine flush around 40k . Then every 15k afterwards. It is totally un-neccessary in a new car. Now if you have a car with 70k or better I would suggest every 15k. It will make your car run smoother. I flushed my cutlass before I sold it and it ran smooooooth
Sounds like another one of those things that made sense decades ago when oil was dirty and actually needed to be changed every 3k or so miles. The technology and cleaning agents in todays oils, especially the Mobil1 in our engines, makes this type of service completely pointless.

No, I was referring to a radiator flush

I agree with the radiator flush every 30k, especially out here. I don't give a **** what GM's dexcool is approved for. At 30k, it's getting flushed out, and replaced with your every day green coolant. I've seen so many mechanics frown upon the dexcool, saying they notice lots of foam build up and crap floating in surge tanks after a time. Not to mention the dexcool was in my last car, and I literally replaced every single part that stuff ran through except the engine itself.
As for the engine flush, I think it's a waste of time.

An engine flush is pointless if you change your oil like you should. If you don't let the viscosity of your oil break down so fare that it starts to sludge than you will never have a need to flush. Skitz hit the nail on the head basically. If you tare down an engine with any oil that has been maintained properly and it will look great(I know because I have seen me do it).

its pointless and a waste of money. Every other chevy i've owned has lasted over 200,000 miles without an "engine flush".
