Just curious what you guys think is the better buy. with all factors included.

Also what is the price difference between a 2.4 and a Ss/SC?

Well i bought SS/SC in 05 before they started making the 2.4L version, but it wouldnt have matter cause i would have gotten the SC version anyway. My dealership has a red 2 door NA SS, and i am going to try to talk my girlfriend into getting it. Can you get those in an auto.?

i think the 2.4 is more of a better every day driver, thats why i went with it, 2.4 i think has better guages and im not the biggest fan of leather seats any how. plus i like the "chrome" rims better than the painted ones. also another thing to concider for me was insurance my 2.4 is conciderably cheaper on insurance....and for my final closing arguement i dont know if you get snow where your at but im really glad i have the all season tires on my car....they are bad enough in the snow and rain, couldn't imagine having the summer only tires in the snow....so in conclusion in my personal opinion if you are looking for a SPORTY, "look at me" car to toy with a few times a week, race, and mod out, i would go with the ss/sc. But if you want a more toned down CLASSY (not to say the sc is not because they ALMOST look identical) looking, easy and fun to drive gas sipper that will make you still smile every time you get in it, that is reliable for day to day use in all weather, the 2.4 SS is for you.

I chose the ss/sc because the 2.4 wasn't out. Either way though I would've chose the ss/sc. Now, if you want a super duper fast car, get the 2.4 and wait a couple years until turbo kits come out. If you want something decently fast get the ss/sc. They are about $3,000's more than the n/a ss's.

insurance for me was cheaper for the SS SC, the SS SC is a good everyday driver as well, i think for the money you spend on a 2.4, spend a bit more and get a lil more, dont get me wrong, i love the 2.4 aswell, its a solid car, but if you have a lil extra cash i would say go for the big boy, my 2 cents, peace.

I opted for the 2.4 for a few reasons. I like the 17" polished wheels much better then the painted 18s, IMO the 18s look like they are always dirty with brake dust. Plus its possible for the paint to start coming off and they might look like crap after a few years. On top of that, tires are much cheaper for the 17s.

I also like the spoiler on the 2.4 better. I think the spoiler on the 2.0 is kinda gaudy and it makes rear visibility even worse on a car that has crappy rear visibility to begin with.

The lack of a supercharger is another reason I got the 2.4. There is a good possibility I will keep this car for a long time and as such, the supercharger is liable to wear out.

The gas mileage is also considerably better which is one of the main reasons I opted for the 2.4. That, combined with the fact that the red tag sale didn't do much on the sc cars sealed the deal on me getting the 2.4.

By the way, when I got insurance quotes for both, they weren't that different. I think the sc was $30 more every 6 months......

For the price I think the SS/SC is the better buy. The 2.4 is a great car but I think GM has the price point set a little too high on it. Mine is way better than I expected, I expected crappy gas mileage and high maintenance costs and I've really been pleasantly surprised. Tires are expensive but come spring I'm planning on getting a spare set just for auto-x and track days so that will cut down on replacing the 18" tires.

2.4 ss:
* Better gas millage
* Less emissions
* Bi gger engine
* VVT
* Cheaper
* Cheaper insurance
* Rear bumper is sexy- I like that black mesh inlay on the bottom!
* heated leather seats
Finaly: All that I need-

usualy I would just be getting the base coupe, but since the cobalt first appeared in the LA auto show, I had to have it. the looks just captured me- round tail lights, black mesh rear bumper, ground effects, fog lights, and the best; wheels- which I'm dissapointed in because they are different than the concept.
also the pull door handle are cool too! the other kind (like cavalier's) suck!

i opted for the 2.4 for a few reasons, i like the bigger displacement engine, i like the vvt, im not a big fan of superchargers and i am definately adding a turbo on this car this summer and it should be very fast enough for me even though its pretty quick now

The 2.0 is a better buy...a fully loaded 2.4 only costs about $1k less than a base 2.0 (the base 2.0 comes with just about everything the fully loaded 2.4 comes with).
