2 Black Cobalt SS's in Ann Arbor, Mi - Part 2
Well, since the last thread was locked here you go...
I took a nice little drive today during lunch and to my delight 1 of the SS Supercharged Cobalt’s was still there. O, and I happened to have my camera. I will post pics when I get home. I even got out of the car and took a pic of it next to my RSX-S. It was also parked next to a redline so you can tell what I was talking about in the previous thread. I DO like the Cobalt SS, but just not a much as my Type-S. Torque, my car does not need it... it needs traction like all FWD cars. With a hard launch I am spinning all through 1st and 2nd and most of third. In first gear if I ease into it for the tires to catch... at WOT when I hit VTEC my god damn tires break loose again. Not to mention it sounds like an airplane taking off. On the highway it is an absolute beast. I like the RSX, some do, and some don't. The intention of the original post was just to pass along a Cobalt sighting. Sorry if I offended anyone, lets make this discussion informative.

like i said in my post ont he other thread, RSX is a sweet car... but i noticed when i was at the dealer getting oil change for my TL is that they cut cost on the 2005 models, the guages are no longer dish shap, and it seemed they use cheaper material than the previous model years... although the little boost in hp is welcome. cant wait to see the pics and prove me wrong about saying your bs
Can't even wait for the pics! lol.. I may not even go out tonight in aspiration of seeing the pics. Wait.. who am I kidding.. they're not goin' anywhere.. I check um in the morning with a slight hangover!!
Go Bobcats!!! haha I know we have a lot of Ohio members on here.. anyone know how far Lordstown is from Athens? Peace out!
haha....my thoughts are the same....I have a couple cars I'm trying to decide between and the rsx type s ranks up there along the cobalt ss supercharged, srt-4, hyundai tiburon GT, and scion tC. My top three favorites right now without driving any of them, but just from looks and what I've read about them and sitting in them at the washington autoshow, I like the cobalt supercharged, and the acura rsx-s, but the srt-4 will always be up there on the list because of 250 hp on the showroom, but whatever. Torque is great. All I know is if I was building an N/A vehicle, I'd go with rsx type s hands down. But this cobalt has grabbed my attention and the srt-4 is just fast.
Here you go guys... Sorry for the delay; I had to work late then I cooked dinner for the wife. The SS does grow on me more each time I see it. Too bad I could not get any front shots.

Dman,
Who do you think you are?
Boost Addict,
No corners cut for the 05's. The gauges are the same just white faced. You get a hell of a lot more car for the price actually. It is not just a visual upgrade. I pretty much have a Type-R minus the LSD and ugly wing.
Vita,
Sure buddy! May I ask what you drive?
Mike

Sweet, it just needs to be clean!
As I've said before I really like the RSX, and especially the Type S. I think it is a good-looking, good performing car with Honda's quality and reliability behind it. There are A LOT of them around, which speaks to the popularity of the car, and is also one of the reasons that I don't want one. I'd take a Cobalt SS over an RSX because for my money I believe it's a better value, but I may be biased also because I am a GM fan.
If cars were only one-faceted and it was easy to classify a clear cut best, everyone would drive that car, and we would have no one to race.

really there is no sutch thing as a hard launch, you either launch well or not well, a hard launch in all reality is called a burnout, and anything under a "good launch" is called bogging out........ so im calling B.S on your claim to be able to rip through third gear in a car that barely has 146lb/ft of tq at the crank, my probe is putting out over 230+whp and over 320+wtq and even i cant burn through third gear unless i dump it at a high rpm, intentionaly trying to burn out, AND VTEC ISNT SO GREAT THAT IT IS ABLE TO MAKE YOUR TIRES BREAK LOOSE!!!!!
you dont gain enough from vtec to be able to lose traction that bad, especialy when it only kicks in at WOT at 5500rpm and by that time you have already gained traction and are rolling at a decent rate of speed to keep traction when that extra small amount of hp is gained when vtec is engaged.
so to sum it up...... THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY YOU ARE LOSING TRACTION THROUGH 3RD GEAR UNLESS YOU ARE INTENTIONALY TRYING TO DO IT BY DUMPING THE CLUTCH AT A FAIRLY HIGH RPM, ESPECIALY WITH AN LSD, AND THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL YOU ARE LOSING TRACTION WHEN VTEC ENGAGES BECAUSE ITS NOT ENOUGH OF A HP/TQ GAIN TO MAKE YOU BREAK TRACTION UNLESS (AGAIN) YOU ARE INTENTIONALY DOING IT BY DOWNSHIFTING HARD INTO 2ND GEAR OR RAISING YOUR REVS REDICULUSLY HIGH BEFORE SHIFTING, AND EVEN THEN YOURE ONLY GOING TO GET A BARK/CHIRP INTO 2ND GEAR.
and dont even try to tell me that i dont know what i am talking about, i worked on, built, modded, and raced honda vehicles up untill 1 1/2 years ago when i finaly got sick of the extreme lack of low end acceleration.
HP= top end acceleration and good highway runs
TQ= low end power, umph, and hard acceleration off the start.
horsepower sells cars and torque wins races, its a proven fact.
so again, i know what i am talking about and know the honda/acura motors very well, i may not build/mod/race them anymore but i still keep up on the community and new engines/vehicles that are released.
and one more thing, dont even respond back trying to convince me that you arent over exagurating your traction issues just a........ ok a lot.
you will only make yourself look even more stupid than you already have.
"Dman,
Who do you think you are?"
heh,
i think im Dustin (D for short), nice to meet you...
sorry about my earlier post, its just that im way to used to all talk no action people on web boards...that and they did lock your other post so i just figured you were one of our first trolls...i actually work for a honda/acrua dealer right now in the wilmington area...but when im at home i work for the chev dealer that my dad is shop foreman over...so i kinda get the odds and ends of both worlds...i was, and still am between a rsx and ss/sc myself...i mean...i know the cobalt has the torque and all but slap a cybernation turbo kit with the guardian EI on a rsx with only like 9 lbs of boost...and ur talking a 300whp rsx there...no tuning required either...
you visit clubrsx.com any? im a regular over there....
and thanks for the pics...if ya see it anymore...grab some of the front end...
aaaaannnnddddd im gonna have to agree with the guy above me on the whole tire breaking loose thing...ive driven enough rsx's to know that even in first, even if the tires have caught traction...they will not break loose when u hit vtec...i mean, snatching gears is easy in those things...but ive only ever seen the turbo ones break traction at vtec....

Alright... this week was my first week experiencing VTEC since my car is now properly broken in.
I really am not joking guys... Let me add a few factors to the puzzle.
1) The stock Michelins absolutely suck. I have come to the conclusion that these are the worst tires on earth for my RSX.
2) It has been in the 20's all week (Fahrenheit).
3) The roads do have some debris leftover from our last snow storm such as salt stains.
These are not excuses just things I forgot to include in my message after coming home from driving my car. I do love it that much. Thus, it is probably all these factors along with the uncontrollable torque on a Type-S... OK I'm kidding there.

for one, i wasn't going to be a dick, but you said your car doesn't need torque, ALL cars need torque, it's what gets you going, horsepower keeps you going faster, in so little words...
and since you want to be a **** and ask what i drive, i drive a redline, and i love it. i also happen to love the rsx-s too, but they are two different machines, they are not competitors, except on the basic level of being sport compacts...
i can see why you got defensive about everyone doubting you, but i wasn't one of them, all i said was that torque owns you, which it does. you've got a nice car, but i'd have to say the rsx-s is more of a track car, while the cobalt/redlines got the track bug, but are more of straight line contenders. and before i'm "bashed" about the redline/cobalt not being straight line cars, the point is that they're just a bit de-tuned from the factory, soon enough we'll be seeing the potential of the twins as i call them, good day.
