The LS/LT is staying pretty much the same (exactly the same mechanically) with MAYBE some minor appearance changes, but it won't be anything significant if they even change anything, same 2.2L engine and everything. The only thing they're adding to the lineup is they're doing away with the base model, the LS is now the base model, but they're adding an LTZ sedan and an SS coupe and sedan 2.4L N/A in addition to the 2.0 SS supercharged.

all they did was add new models , many other manufactures add new models of the same car.

...........but they change the name of the models.......like LS to base.....LT to LS........im fine with the part ADDING......but not downgrading the models...........hope its not gonna mess up my resale value..............they might think that my LT is the current LS the time i sell mine......if u know what i mean

maybe ill just buy a "Z" from gm and stick it on mine to make it LTZ

This has been my biggest beef with GM since they announced the branding changes. When the 2006 models are released I'm going to feel cheated for the sheer fact that when a base model Cobalt pulls up beside my fully loaded 2005 LS it looks branding wise as if we're driving the exact same model which is definitely not the case both in features and price. They may be mechanically identical but the options I paid good money for is what differentiates mine from the base model. If I'd wanted the base I woulda bought the base it's as simple as that.

The situation with the 2.4L SS and the 2.0L SS/SC is similar and I think GM should have really thought this through first before making the switch. The only real thing that is going to differentiate my '05 LS from the '06 LS is the GM symbol which is being mounted just before the driver and passenger side doors...at least I'm assuming this is still the case and it was present in pictures posted of the 2.4L on *************.

Finally this leaves the owners of the base 2005 models out in left field so to speak because their cars lack branding all together when the models of Cobalt going forward as of 2006 will each have their own branding. This should create some nice confusion when people start asking what model it is and they say "Cobalt" when people will be used to the individual brandings in the same way that people understand the branding on Civics, etc.

I really wish GM had taken a different path with differentiating the 2006 models from eachother rather than indirectly screwing us 2005 owners who were willing to buy the first year of a new model and endure possible unforseen problems etc. I'm not trying to sound like a complete jerk or whiner, I just feel cheated .

true. Eddi is right.
I have been researcing this vehicle a year before it came out last fall. I knew from the start that their would be 3 engines, 2 of them in the ss package (2.4 & spercharged 2). I have had my heart set on the 2.4 ss since then. Chevy wanted to get the car out on the road asap. it just so happened that the ss 2.4 model couldnt be made in time, so they stated it in 2006. thats all. so now when people say, "ohh its not supercharged so why are they calling it an ss...", really pisses me off. if you look back the concept cobalt ss was the ss 2.4 not the ss s/c. evidence can be found at the 2004 LA auto show. I provided some dated info and pictures to chew on.

I still think they should have named the 2.4L ss, and RL or something else
but at least the 2.4 will have a diferent spoiler to seperate it from the SS/SC.

I always deal with Carter. If you know anyone that wants an SS give me a PM and I can help you out.

I have another thread going about my car and i'll post pics on there as soon as I get them. Planning on picking it up this Wednesday-Thursday due to work but believe me it sure looks nice. Especially with the integrated mesh in the read bumper (instead of an extension).

ohh, i love that part. it reminds me of the mazda bumper which i'm in love with. the exhuast tip is super too, i think its the same on the ss s/c if i'm not mistaken. IMO the mazda's (mazda 3) and the cobalt have the best looking rears for price.
junk in the truck!

I strongly agree with you Perma, it's very disappointing to see this happening. Whats worse, is that many of us waited 4-6 months to get these cars and almost 2 months later, new models are released, and the current 05's become downgraded.

I, like many in this thread began researching the cobalt almost 2 years ago when it was just a photoshop sketch along with researching the entire Delta platform to give me an idea of what to expect (Opel Astra, etc.).

UNFORTUNATELY, since i was leasing, my 2002 lease had expired and I really had no choice, but to select the model that was available. (It made absouletely no sense to buy out my z24, depreciated like crazy) unless I went with another manufacturer (which I strongly considered). I guess it wouldn't have been so bad if I actually got my car when it was ordered (Jan 05) instead of the end of May. If there was such a production problem with these cars, they should have waited the extra 2 months and put me into an 06 2.4, or atleast given me the option. (Since the price difference is marginal). But according to GMAC, my lease had been extended by 4 months already (due to the production delays) and they were not willing to go any further.

The funny thing is, when I asked my dealer when they were expecting the 2.4's, he told me Oct/Nov 05. Funny how I see them on the lot 2 months after I take delivery of mine.

I have known SINCE I first heard about the car that the 06's were going to have a new motor choice. Should of joined a little sooner and asked before you bought the car

I think I've pretty much come to the point where I'm not going to worry about it and just enjoy my car...I know what I'm driving, I'm more than happy with it and that's really all that matters . I think I managed to vent my anger more than enough the first time I found out about the proposed branding changes ! This whole branding change (not too concerned with the mechanical changes) etc. will definitely make me second-think buying a first-year production model from any company, not just Chevy, next time around though to make sure to avoid a similar situation all over again.

Ultimately this car's primary function is to get me from A to B, 12 months of the year and as long as it can do that (and look pretty good at the same time) I'm happy.

Your resale isnt going to be messed up at all.... its not like they changed models MID YEAR... its all by the book and KBB and companies like that arent going by the next year... anyways your re-sale is going to be so low in a few years anyways its not like your talking huge amounts of money here.... its a what 16k$ car? I could see if they switched the badge on a $50,000 car but remeber you bought a budget car "you get what your pay for"

I wouldn't exactly call my $27,000 CDN LS a "budget car" ...if I wanted "budget" I woulda bought a $14,000 Elantra or something. There were a few things keeping me from buying the SS which would have run me somewhere in the range of $5,000CDN more (I think that was with a sunroof as well) which when you're spending that amount what does it matter anymore.

I'm not worried about the value of the car depreciating and no one should be, they go by the "black book" and they can tell by your VIN that it was made as an '05 model...not to mention it is also on the tags on the inside of the driver's door. I think people overall seem to be more irritated with the idea of their car becoming "obsolete" for the lack of a better term.

At the Phoenix auto show in '04 the SS was a s/c, not originally the 2.4L
