I am pretty sure all Ecotechs take the same filter.

The AC Delco number is PF457G, hasn't changed since it updated from a 456 a few years back. Not sure about the actual GM part number, I can look tomorrow though.

EDIT- GM number is 12605566 hasn't changed at all.

Besides Ebay can any of you tell me a good place to get ACDELCO filters at a cheaper price then the dealer. Also is it necissary to replace the O-ring each oil change?

CED has some competitive prices:

As long as the O-ring isn't damaged it can be reused. Just makes sense to change the oil cap's o-ring -- cheap insurance.

Just a question as i have never had a car with the cartridge style filter. When installing the new filter are you supposed to attach it first to the cap and then insert it? or insert it and then screw on the cap?

When you pull off the oil filter cap you get the answer to your question....the filter will come out with the cap -- snaps on and off the cap. When you put in a new filter you snap it in place on the cap.

Open hood look at the right side of the intake manifold( drivers side), on the cylinder block, you will see a black plastic cap with a hex nut in the middle -- that's the filter cap.

You also may want to put some white lithium grease on the o-ring on the little titty to make sure it slides in nice and doesn't cause the filter to get crushed. Insurance.

Just about any auto parts store should sell you a tube of WL grease. One tube will last the life of the car. Once you get a filter in your hand you will see the littly titty and o-ring in question.

theres really no need for any of the grease and lube this and that. Just take the filter out and snap the new one in. screw it back into the block and your fine. theres no need to make it into a big to-do. Itll take 10 mins tops. Its a PF457g filter and you can get them at napa.

Yeah nevermind. Do whatever. I'll just keep my experiences to myself from now on. I have seen a few of those filters that get crushed because the o-ring didn't slide into place, but I'm sure that's no big deal. Thanks for correcting me.

Im just saying. I do 3-4 ecotec oil changes a day at the dealership and have never had one get crushed. Theres still oil laying in that general area anyway. SI also doesnt mention it to my knowledge. Some people ( not you ^) tend to take stuff way to literally and get carried away with grease and waht not.

Yeah, there's always like a couple spoonfulls of old oil remaining in the filter cavity; just dab a little with your finger and get it on the O-ring.

Use a 32 MM shallow socket to remove the fiter cap. Pep Boys has a socket -- RiteFit PN 2572; Autozone sells one as well (but I don't know the PN). I think a 1 1/4" socket will work too.
