2008 Chevy Cobalt SS/SC - CHANGES?!

Im on the verge of ordering a cobalt SS/SC (theres nothing on the lot's with everything I want/not want). They say it will take 6-8 weeks for delivery. My question is; does anyone know what the 2008's will be offering that the 2007's aren't?? I heard they are strengthening the axel's for 2008, is this true??

When do the 2008's come out - before September?? If I order soon I will take delivery early June. I want this thing, but if the 2008's are built stronger, waiting might be better?

What do you guys think?

P.S. I know GM are the ones to talk to about 2008's arrival, but sales guys are so full of poop sometimes, its not worth it...

The strength of the axels wont matter, its if they cured wheel hop, which destroys the axels

no one here knows so the best thing to do would be to wait until they actually release it, otherwise you may be setting yourself up looking forward to a turbo or flux capacitor or what not

It was never cured. Wheel hop causes the axles to weaken and break. If you dont have wheel hop your axles will probably be fine

Im not too interested in a Turbo or a flux capacitor. I just wanna run stage 2 and be able to pull hard from 1st.... how much do you have to baby it in 1st??

MY friend's got an RSX type-S and laughs at me when I talk like that because he can't believe that a car can't handle first gear of itself stock?!

The wheel hop is from a dig. If you dump the clutch, you're going to get wheel hop. Not much you can do about it, unless you invest in some traction mods.

Wheel hop happens b/c of one thing torque. Something that pitiful RSX dosen't have.

That's why we wheel hop off the line and they don't. An Ingalls or some solid mounts will cure the hop... don't worry too much about it... it's a few hundred in mods... no big deal.

ya then you get false knock with solid mouts and the car pulls timing which is why all I have are contol arm bushings and investing in axles....

So if GM is strengthening the axel's for the 2008's, Im probably better off waiting for those cars to come out?? Even if it would still wheel hop, having stronger axles is better than getting wheel hop with weak axels right?

Thats IF GM is changing axels for 2008???

Dude, who cares for 2008 IMO. Get your SS now if you really want a SS/SC. A few hundred $$ will fix your wheel hop. The 2008 will still wheel hop, that will cause your axles to break.. they will just take a little longer to break thats all. And the 2008 will be a few hundred more anyways, hahaha so really save your time and $$ and get a 07! IMO

sunroof, limited slip diff, side airbags, sport-tint paint (extra option), delete big wing - just the small one will do for me, heated seats (which I believe are standard, but GM took a lot away in this area for some reason... and just rebated the money). then stage 2 after the purchase..

I could pick a different colour (which i dont want to do)... But the problem is, those car's also come with more options than i want - upgraded wheels (i like the standard better) and 6 disc CD changer.. both cost bout 500 each.. basically a Grand that i rather put into the upgrades rather than options im not interested in.. and its not in the right colour..

and now i hear 2008's will be altered to strengthen the driveline.. obvioulsy I want the best car for my $$.. so i dunno.....

hondas have some awful wheel hop. when getting on it, there isnt much of a preload to keep the tires on the pavement. get a traction bar on the front of them, and when you launch it preloads the suspension. a honda motor may not have much torque down low, but thats why the gear ratios make up for that.

but even with the stronger axles, you wheel hop and they will probably still break. just try to lay off that until you upgrade the suspension or try to ease off and not dump. but you can still get wheel hop after getting on it in 1st and 2nd. whenever you get in a car that can seriously wheel hop (if you still want a 08 for supposedly stronger axels), you will never get on that car again. it can get extremely nasty. just go with an end of the year 07

If you want one now then go ahead and get one. Why wait for a car that you have no idea about? Hell, It may be uglier. I heard they may have the new malibu front end. Like stated above, traction mods will help your wheel hop issues plus a good driver. Plus youll be one of the few on the site with a blood red cobalt.

Its definately a risk to wait for 2008, that I know... we don't know what it will look like, finance rates, etc.. but, I imagine the changes will be minor cosmetically. Mostly mechanically based..

hey Delta, thanks a lot for the pics.. been pretty hard to find any actually..

I like that sport red color. Saw one when I was back in PA in Nov. Wish I could have a different color on mine. I ordered mine with black and two months later there's two other SS/SC's on base that are also black. Victory red one on base too, and a yellow one in Rapid. Should have gotten an orange one.

engine vibrations making the knock sensor think the motor is knocking, so retards timing.

orange was my first choice but i changed my mind to black and emailed the salesmen that I wanted black, but changed my mind again, but it was too late the order was already submited and accepted.

dpnt get me wrong black looks sexy clean but it's a BITCH to keep clean and scratches show up from a mile away!

There is NO official information about ANYTHING being strengthened for 2008!

Dont take the speculation threads on the forum as fact!!!
