Does anyone know what GM changed in the new XFE models to allow them to increase their highway millage to an unbelievable 36MPG (Thats with the new Fuel economy measurement standards!). I have read some places its a tune and new tires, but I cant believe these two things would allow such a jump. At 36MPG, its the most fuel efficient car in its class, more so than the Corolla!

i get 40 highway as it is...well hey the car is rated to get 34...so maybe this xfe one will get 45, seeing how we can make our get more than its rated to get, all depends on how you drive

The newest Malibu is the LTZ with the 2.4 and and the 6-spd. Makes you wonder why can't they at least put a 5-spd auto in the smaller cars. Corvettes, with the exception of the ZR1, get crazy good MPG because the sixth gear is a cruise gear, if they had an extra gear in all the autos, they could use the last as a cruising gear at ~1600 rpms. I know a big thing with tires is a tire with lower rolling-resistance which helps MPG's. There are so many simple things GM can do to increase MPG's it's retarded and if they made the changes in the whole GM lineup, the starting costs might be more but it would eventually equal out.
