In no way is IRS better than a live axle in a high HP car

You will have pics of everything soon enough! I hope to have the rear air shocks in this weekend! After that gotta check a bunch of nuts and bolts and then plumb the air ride. Then I should be able to drive the friggen thing at least around the yard.. But gotta take it easy until I can widen the fenders

in solid axle suspension systems, when one wheel hits a bump, the wheel across from it is affected as well as the one that hit the bump. This will compromise traction, smoothness of the ride, and could also cause a dangerous wheel shimmy when moving at high speeds. the advantage of IRS is the sporting performance it provides, think about it, with independent suspension systems, only the wheel that hits the bump would be affected. This offers many advantages such as greater ride comfort, better traction, and safer, more stable vehicles on and off the road. I dont know about you but I think the stability and traction advantages of an IRS system are exactly what I want in a "high HP car" it may be the diferance between staying on the road and being wraped around a pole. why do you think dodge vipers, corvettes, and ferraris all use IRS systems?

I sounded like a dick in that post but didn't mean it in that way I guess that's just how it came out. I realize the benefits in what you are saying. I just mean obviously this car isn't gonna see much auto crossing and is gonna see a lot of straight line stuff. Better traction with a solid axle is a no brainer. You pretty much never break **** and don't spend $1000 plus on a set of axles. Any reliable street car or handling based car I agree that IRS is 4729273829x better. But for a straight line a god 9 inch or a Dana is why everyone switches. That's why any fast Texas mile car or fast rwd cars in the 1/4 run solid axle setups 90% of the time. Not saying it can't be done but for a non dd car(which I'm just assuming this is not a dd) that he will be drag racing, a solid axle will be beneficial especially since he seems on par with fabrication work. Can't even count how many cammed gto I've seen hauled off the track for a broken axle. Also a twin turbo viper , 3 weeks later he paid some shop like 12k to fab in a solid axle.

Both have their perks and I'm not arguing as you made some good points. I guess its what the op is using the car more for. I' was just assuming a weekend warrior at the strip and the occasional street drive.

BTW op I haven't commented much but I commend you on your fab skills out of your garage! I do quite a bit of fab work myself and it is not easy! Everything you did looks awesome

I never recall hearing this car was going to be a straight line car in the first place and was going to be more all around fun than any specific purpose. Therefore IRS made sense since he already had all the parts and pieces to make it happen. I can't wait to see some video of this car on the road!!!

I like it without the fenderflears . Kinda wish he can actually tuck the wheels inside factory wheel wells.
