So has anyone ever tried putting 8 3/4" rims on a cobalt? Obviously some spacers or adapter plates would be needed. Some specs if anyone has any would be much useful 👍🏽

Guys run 9" wide wheels no problem without spacers. It's all about the proper offset. I know 17x9 +30 is popular.

Anything bigger than 17,s in my opinion on these cars looks weird. Anything smaller than 16's looks weird too.
