? about Cobalts Ignition

My friend told me that on her 2005 Cobalt LS she cant start her car up and then just pull the key out of the ignition(while engine is still running), get out of the car with keys in hand(while engine and all electronics are still working) go and do whatever and come back get in the car put the key back in the ignition and then drive off. I dont see how thats possible i tried it on mine and i could not do it. So my ? is, Is there something wrong with her car that she can do this or do the other LS balts do this to?

ignition switch just gone bad.. you can do this alot in older cars where the column needs some work, and no lock pins are still in place

seems like the actual ignition switch is broken...lol...which is a very bad thing, get that balt into the dealership ASAP cus if i interpreted that right...you wouldn't even need a key to start it...just a screwdriver... but anyway...take it to the dealership, tell them whats wrong and they will most definately take care of that under warrenty.

Ok thats what i thought but she tried to make me think it was some kind of extra feature like remote start or something. Yeah see cant her warrant is up. She has around 45,000 miles on it.

so .. go fix it.. its not expensive.. local part starts tend to sell ignition switches from like 10 - 30$

if no.. then just hook her up a remote start/push button

The igition cylinder or just the tumblers in the cylinder is what's bad. It happens a lot with the Grand Ams and Malibu's. They will probably have to remove your ignition asm. and either replace or recode your cylinder.

If you tell a dealer your ignition switch is bad they are going to look at the electrical part of your ignition and not the part your key goes in.

She has the self starting system in the car and does not even know it she can acually start the car by remote thats why she take the key out only automatic cablats have this feature.

If she has factory remote start the car will still turn off when you turn the key to the off position. And the key is not removable in the run position. The car will stay running when you turn the key to ON position after you do the remote start sequence. But once you turn the key on it should shut off when you turn the ignition to the OFF position.

This is all factory settings. An aftermarket may be different or do what is happening to hers.

No her car is bone stock. And she dosent turn the key to off and pull it out. She pulls it straight out from the run position(With everything still running).

The key can not be removed unless the car is in park.

The ignition on her car is screwed.

Well i was at her house the other day and took it for a ride. I backed the car out of a parking spot and while the car was still running and i was in Reverse i could pull the key straight out of the ignition(while in the run position), and everything stayed running. I could even drive it while the key sat in the cup holder. Then when i went to shut it off i just put the key back in the ingnition and turned it off.
