ok well first off my name is dan, i just got my blue cobalt ss/sc and love it. One major problem i have been having is not being able to get any traction out of first. I know it is winter and the roads are colder than normal but when i say no traction i mean no traction lol. I would also like to know what mileage everyone else is getting with theres since we have the little mile per gallon reader with the car. I see 25 every tank, i usually shift very low when not having fun to save my gas. Lastly, what is everyone paying for insurance per month on their cars. Well thanks for the repsonses in advance guys, look forward to talking to a lot of you in the future

Well the traction issue is the same with everyone. You can't dump your clutch and you can't open it up in 1st gear or your going to spin.

My gas milage is about the same as yours. It's terrible.

Traction is a problem if u still have the Pirelli tires still on. Everyone will have it. That's why I bought a set of Winter Tires, especially living in Buffalo, NY. My mpg is around 25 as well. Over the summer I traveled to Cedar Point and was doing 80 all the way and was getting 34mpg. Normal driving in the summer ill stay around 28-29mpg

Gotta learn how to finess that clutch man . I can launch mine pretty hard outa first with just a tiny bit of spin on the pirelli's just by slipping the clutch and modulating the throttle . Another way , that launches harder if I nail it right is to bring the revs to about 2K , dump the clutch and modulate the throttle ....if u give it the slightest to much throttle that way though , it will be nothing but a big wheel hop festival .

Gas - average about 24-26 miles per gallon ....and as low as 19-20 if I beat on it alot .

I pay $ 330 every 6 months for full coverage with a $500 deductible .

For traction, I have none without sliks, but I also have 320hp. As far as my mile per gallon, I am currently at 31.8mpg. With all the stuff I have done to my car I thought it would lower my MPG but it actually made it better.

Unfortunately this isn't the solution either . If I give it hell outta first gear I get MAD wheel hop (you'd almost think I have hydraulics in the front)...so much to the point I'm afraid of busting up my front-end so I avoid launching at high RPM as often as possible.

I get 22-23mpg.

Mine spins in first if I get on it. I generally don't get on it in first because I don't want to replace the tires any time soon.

Insurance is 1k a year.

Welcome to the world of a high-power FWD car. Also, remeber that you are running summer-only tires that will not work at all if they have no heat in them (during the winter months). Traction should be better in the summer when it warms up.

If you drive like a maniac, you'll get maniac gas mileage

I normally get between 22-26 mpg, per tank in my car(I don't drive like a grandma either). I also reset the meter ever fill-up.
If I'm really frugal with my driving then I can easly get 28+ mpg while doing 80% city 20% highway. If driven hard, these cars are very good at sucking down gas, which is good for power, if driven light these cars are very good for gas mileage. I love my car's economy.

I get 22 MPG City/23.5 or 24 on Highway.

My insurance is $230 a month full coverage, $500 deductible. 19 Years old, never been pulled over.

aaaaaaaah I definately remeber those days where the insurance payment was more than the car payment . I had a new 92 RS Camaro , 89 Iroc and a new 95 TA all before I was 21 . At 25 the high insurance magically just goes away , which for a car guy is worth its weight in gold .

FU!!! hahaha! I'm 25, and I'll turn 26 in January. Infact I just renewed my policy with Geico and it actually went up like 7 dollars a month! And I've had no 'activity' on my account either.

FWIW - I quoted gieco for myself , they were $450 more every 6 months than my current policy . Also did Progressive too , another one that is supposed to be cheap(er) , same coverage was $695 thru them . Im with Farm Bureau now , not sure if you guys have them up there but it may be worth a look .

my last tank which i filled today I got 13.1 mpg.. Yes i drive my car hard.. I have 330 miles on it. The gas mileage should improve with more miles right...

nearly 9k miles on the car ... since day one I was getting 26-28mpg ... now with all the cold starts im at about 24-26. This being stop and go traffic along with freeway driving. Reset the meter each fill. So check it out I drove to my hometown in silver city nm and got 26mpg why? I wanted to save a buck or two putting costco gas even though i know top tier is best. I learned my lesson there. On the way back I put chevron and went all the way up to 33.6 mpg. Circle K gas or 76 as some are called, same a lil over 33~mpg. Lesson learned and never using crap gas for a trip again.

i usually get anywhere from 25-30 MPG. and for those who said that they are getting like 17 MPG, when you gun it hard the MPG's go down, but after you gun it go and reset the MPG's, then it will go back up to normal. one thing that i noticed is that when driving hard when the MPG's go down, even if you coast at a decent speed afterwards, the MPG's have a hard time getting back up, so just reset it. one time i was coasting down at road, a small decline, and i reset the MPG's and the damn thing said i was getting 70.3 MPG!!!! so the computer i think is just not as smart as it should be. also i pay $175 a month for 10 months, full coverage, 19 years old, no accidents, no tickets.

When u reset it , it reads real time fuel economy until it has a history to base an average , hence the reason the # starts high and averages itself down . Thats why u at times will see a very high # . Same deal when you drive it hard enuff to bring the # down . Its takes alota granny driving to average your fuel economy back up back up . Ive checked actual mileage with the DIC , I think the Cobalts is one of the most accurate Ive seen .
