Question Anyone Tint Your Own Windows??

Hi everyone its summer time and I am getting tired of getting into my car when it feels like an oven so im looking to get window tint.

Ive been calling up the shops here and they're prices are around 180$ for all windows front and back ( I have a SS/SC). Im looking to get 5% in the back and 35% for the front windows since its illigal here in Cali to have them tinted but hey its hot and I hate getting sunburned all the damn time.

So my question is has anyone tinted their own windows since I can get the precut sets in the shades I want them on ebay for cheap, but im just not sure how hard is it to put your own tint and if its worth it getting it done professionaly. I would try to do it my self it its easy enough. Anyone ?....

In the long run it's cheaper just to have someone else do it, less hassle, less expense. Most places will put whatever tint you want on the car but they make you sign a waiver and void the warranty if it's not legal. At least that's the way it always worked for me when I was in Louisiana.

I havnt done the cobalt but all the windows but the rear on most cars are very easy to do with some sort of squeegie device and a heatgun to get out all the bubbles. However rear windows with the curves are a pain in the ass to do. sometime you have to do them in several pieces to get it to look right and its hard to match the pieces up to look good. If you want to save some money, my advise would be to tackle the 4 main windows and leave the rear to the pros.

I have looked into tinting my own windows and found that it really is better to just have somebody else do it.

Save yourself the frustration

I definately agree. I tried doing my and it is a real pain in the ass. You are much better off just getting it done professionally plus you usually will get some sort of warranty.

You will never be able to form the back window on that car. Especially since you have no tinting experience. And if you do get it, it will be because you cut it into three pieces. And since you cut it into three pieces, no doubt you will see all the cuts because you will never line them up on the defroster grid perfectly. Just take it to a pro shop. Even us guys here on the east coast charge that same price for that same car. So you are not getting ripped off or anything. Make sure they use Johnson films though.

I recentely did 5% on my rear passenger windows in my SS/SC by my self, it was not hard at all just took some time to work out the bubbles I will post pics as soon as I host them on my car domain. It's not hard at all I am probably going to be doing my front 2 windows 5% and just getting my rear window professionally done at 5% also.

it wont void your warranty..... unless you have a warranty on your window lol. I never signed a waiver saying it would void my warranty. have someone else do it. get someone that does comuter cut. your back window will be one piece then.

I would leave it to the professionals. Doing it yourself is a giant pain, and will not look as good what a pro can do.

have it done professionally, I'm a window tinter and I had problems with the backglass so if you order the film and mess up one window, you'll have to drive your car with one window not tinted until you recieve that film back.
The other good thing is that normally, a professional job is garanteed against bubbles and decolorisation for as long as you own the car.... we don't use Wal Mart window film

it'll void the window tint film's warranty ... not the car's warranty
if the tint isn't legal and you have to rip it off, the shop won't put one back on for free

I did mine. Side windows, and back windows. The rear I ran out of time to get done. I did all four side windows in about 2 hours with prep, clean and squegee work. I ordered mine from snaptint.com. All pre-cut, Solargard HP metallic films. I think I am going to have the rear professionally installed though cause it does look like a PITA!!!
