Automatic ?
Automatic ?
Ok, since im automatic, im hoping some auto guys will help me. Lately my "shifter" has been sticking from D to P. Its fine going from D to N, but D to P is really hard. I feel like im gonna break it sometimes. Im not sure what the problem could be...I dont want to tear it apart and fiddle with anything yet. Anybody else having this problem?
Lol. Check your fuses under the hood and on the passenger side lower air vent fuse panel.
It could aslo just be a bad shifter. I've heard about that a few times on here. has your key ever gotten stuck in the ignition?

i park on a hill so yea, it does until i put the E-brake on...otherwise, if im on a hill and i just let it coast to stop, and i dont put the brake on, i'll roll backwards like a manual would...
a friend of mine had the same problem
but her's was because the piece of plastic in the groove where
the shifter slides up and down was popped up a little bit
she had to realign the plastic is all
just a thought

Mine did the exact same thing, as everyone else said it was the shifter. There is a small button under the shifter that gets stuck or something. Sorry though, mine was warranty so I don't know the price. I'll ask my dad tomorrow. he is the service director for the dealership group in town.
If you take off the trim on the top of the console and look at this shifter on the pass side, you should see a little switch. There should be a bar that pushes up on that switch. It should extend about the same ammount on each side of the shifter. It gets mispositioned and causes shifter problems and keys sticking in the ignition. If you reposition it correctly, the shifter should work. It will probably get out of position again later on but it beats buying a new one.
ah i'll try that
its never had a problem until like the past few weeks and its been getting worse...i've had it since 26k and it just broke 50k the other day

I also have an '05 auto LS, and my key was getting stuck about a year ago, and I took it in to get looked at and they said that it was the shifter. They replaced it under warranty. I got a new one from an '06, I believe, as my old shifter assembly had P-R-N-D-2-1 instead of P-R-N-D-I-L (I'm almost 100% positive).
Luckily enough, it was still under warranty (my car has less than half the number of miles that yours does--I just rolled over 22,000 last month). I have no idea how much it would cost to get it replaced out of pocket.

could be a bad shifter thats what happen to mine it wouldn't go in to park, it came to point where i had to slamed in park....and then my keys wouldn't come out . If your still under warranty you should be able to get it fixed under warranty like mine
im way out of my factory warranty. i dont think my other warranty will cover it. its ok though, it looks like its just a trim peice thats buckling and not allowing it to shift properly.

While you're at it, see if that small metal bar is loose at all...if it is, chances are the shifter is gunna break soon. It's already happened to me and I gotta press the solenoid inside my steering column to get my key out all of the time. BTW, the part # for the shifter is 15926820. I think the dealer wanted approx. $120 + tax. GMpartsdirect.com wants $68.90. And it's easy to replace if you know how to handle basic tools.
