Bike Trunk Rack?
Hey guys,
Not sure if this is the right forum... but I need to get a bike rack for my 2009 Cobalt SS. I need to carry 2 bikes on it and I was looking at a trunk rack... only problem is will a trunk rack fit with a high rise spoiler?
If any mountain bikers can tell me how they haul around their mountain bike on their SS, that would be awesome!

I've seen where several people have found racks that they made work, but it always looks pretty cobbled together like it's going to scratch or damage the wing. If the rack doesn't scratch-then the bike handlebars and pedals will be digging in.
IMHO, you are better off spending some money and getting a hitch mount or pulling your bike wheels and putting it inside.

Hidden Hitch makes a hitch for the Cobalt SS even though the manuals say "towing is not recomended" so get one of those and then buy a hitch mounted bike rack.
Just label the hitch with something like "for use with hitch mounted accesories such as bike racks. not to be used with towing" so GM doesn't go screaming about voiding your warranty because you're towing with it

Trunk racks will work fine if your patient and buy a GOOD one, I really like Thule stuff as I sold it for many years. Yakima and Saris also make good stuff.
The bottom arm is what supports the bikes, the upper only stabilizes the rack, most nice ones will have enough adjustment to let you position the upper arm under the blade of the spoiler.
Good racks will have antisway carrying spots, that keep the bike from rocking into car under brake/accel, you just bungee the wheel to the frame to keep the bars/wheel from hitting car.
Any proper bike shop will let you "try on" the rack on your car. If they wont, go elsewhere.

I've been looking at getting a hitch-mount setup. Trunk mount setups are just too dodgy; and roof mounts are a recipe for disaster, if you forget about the bikes on top and pull into a drive-thru or garage, etc...
If you do a search, someone on here already installed a little class II with pics....
