Brake rant on SS

So I have been having brake issues with my car (4 dr SS 2.4) since i got it way back in November, I have gone in once a up until now. I took the car in today because I could feel vibration in the wheel. What I don't understand is WHY DON"T THEY PUT PERFORMANCE BRAKES AND PADS ON THE SS MODELS?????????

well, it's the heating and cooling of the rotors that cause warping that causes that pulsation. Also, the pads they use now are a semi-metallic pad....which they use because they will last longer then the ceramic pads. But they are a bit harder on the rotors too.

07 SS 2.4 and 07 SS/SC Have the exact same brakes...That being said.. Maybe your lug nuts are not properly tightened and that will cause rotors to warp.. Also dont get them hot then hit a water hole wide open either..

Probably the biggest problem I've seen with Cobalts. Get performance breaks when the first ones burn out and/or learn to change 'em yourself.

I have to say my 09 2dr SS/TC, which has the Brembo's, SUCK ASS!!! In the rain you have to mash on the brakes because it doesn't grip AT ALL! And the brake dust they give off is just insane! I wash my wheels like every 3 days and the car once a week LOL!

Actually semi metallic pad wear faster and dust a lot more than ceramic pads. The reason for the semi metallic is they stop the car shorter than Ceramic pads.

The dead zone in braking performance when driving in the rain is REALLY disconcerting... I do a lot of highway driving and I have to keep massive following distances in the rain. I feel like there's literally no brakes for the first second or so I hit the pedal, during which time my car travels quite a long way at full velocity.

Or learn that if you're running through brakes too quickly that your driving style needs some revision?

To put a twist on an old school help desk acronym - PEBBPADS - Problem Exists Between Brake Pedal And Driver's Seat....

I feel better that it's not just my car, not that this is a good issue at all! But I totally agree, feels like 0.0 brakes!

All brakes do that to some extent in the rain, performance brakes especially. There is always a film on rotors, but when wet is has oily properties. There's not really any way for you to avoid getting water on the pads or rotors, it's just general practice to drag the brakes a bit before coming to a stop to get as much water off as possible and give yourself a surface that's dry as possible. If you're in traffic where a hard stop is more likely, you should periodically lightly hit the brakes to keep them as dry as possible.

When I was in school, that was a standard lesson in driver's ed. From what my cousins told me though I guess they don't teach that as much anymore tho.

Sorry, i hate it when I overload people with common sense, because some people just can't handle it. Lol.

And heck, the rebuttal to that statement would be, what if its an animal and not traffic that causes me to have to stop quick? The simple answer to that would be to drive more cautiously.

There, now that I have gotten the common sense out of the way for the day, y'all can resume your normal conversations.

x2. You're supposed to leave more distance between cars when it's raining anyway. Understandably accidents DO happen, but 95% of the time they're avoidable by adjusting your driving to the road conditions. EVERY car's braking suffers in the rain for two reasons - obviously less traction to the tires, and also what everyone's complaining about with the brakes not feeling like they're working.

I thought they made that a bannable offense now?

Of course **** can happen, but quit bitchin about it. If you are following so close to hit someone, you're too close. Thats pretty much common sense to me. And, I VERY HIGHLY doubt that your brakes take 2-3 seconds to engage. If thats the case, then you should probably change your fluid and your pads, and make sure to properly bleed your lines.
