Question Bubbles in windshield glass

My parents just bought a Cobalt today and on their way home from the dealership they noticed what appeared like three chips on the windshield. When thet got home they checked these places from the outside and they are actual little bubbles inside the glass. They are totally smooth from both sides.

We have never seen a winshield with that kind of defect and we are worried that these could be weak spots on the glass that could crack or form a chip. In addition two of these bubbles are in the line of sight of the passenger and are both annoying and unsightly.

Can anybody shed some light on these "bubbles" and any future problems caused by this situation?

Devillier, I'm in the auto glass business. These are factory flaws from the glass manufacturer. They should not present a problem although they are a weakness in the glass. The bubble is an air pocket between one of the layers of glass and the PVB or poly liner that holds the two pieces of glass in the windshield together. I have seen these quite often. Particularly on older model GM vehicles. Being as they are in the viewable area of the windshield and not on the edge as is usual I would have the dealer replace the windshield under warranty. Be wary of who they have do the replacement. The windshield is an integral part of the structure of your car and a bad install can be perilous in the case of an accident. The problem with this is most dealers will use the cheapest guy around instead of the best guy around. I'll ask around and see if I can find someone to recommend in El Paso.
