If I lived nearby, I'd really consider it...
I'm guessing it's just a Cobalt coupe or sedan, though, with no options.

Crazy ****. Def an awesome deal. But sad that the economy is doing so badly that dealers have to GIVE away cars in order cope with what fuel prices are doing to everyone......

From my limited knowledge on this, GM dealers have a massive amount more margin in trucks and SUVs than cars. There is little margin in the cars, or so a good friend at a GM dealership tells me. That is why you can go to a dealership and haggle on the price of a truck, where as you don't get much haggle room on the cars. With so many of the "large margin" trucks sitting on the lots, taking up the space allotments of where cars could, it only make sense to sell a truck at sticker or thereabouts to (1) clear inventory space for cars, and (2) redeem the margin in the truck while taking only what works out to a small loss on the car giveaway. It will be interesting to see if other dealerships do something similiar.

Im very sure you will have to pay MSRP for the SUV.
1: $50,000 suv = around $840 a month with low interest, 60 months with free cobalt
or
2: wait for sales get 10 grand off sticker pay about 670 for SUV
13,000 cobalt for around 220 a month.
Theres about $50 a month diffrence but heres the problem....if you deside to trade in the SUV later your 10 grand upside down. The only way to do away from that is to either pay a hell of alot more or trade in the Cobalt too.

They do go hand in hand in terms of margin, etc. A new 2500HD Duramax LS or LT stickers at about 40 give or take a few grand depending on options. We just bought a new one here at work, it is maxed out loaded with every bell and whistle that could possibly come with it from the factory. Sticker was 52K. A CC 1500 varies. MSRP on most is about 31-32 for an LS package. Step up to more goodies and it can reach 40K MSRP. I know because I almost bought a brand new GMC Sierra before I bought my Cobalt.
