Crazy ****. Def an awesome deal. But sad that the economy is doing so badly that dealers have to GIVE away cars in order cope with what fuel prices are doing to everyone......

I would drive the cobalt and keep the truck with only 47 miles on it until the Camaro comes out and then trade it.

From my limited knowledge on this, GM dealers have a massive amount more margin in trucks and SUVs than cars. There is little margin in the cars, or so a good friend at a GM dealership tells me. That is why you can go to a dealership and haggle on the price of a truck, where as you don't get much haggle room on the cars. With so many of the "large margin" trucks sitting on the lots, taking up the space allotments of where cars could, it only make sense to sell a truck at sticker or thereabouts to (1) clear inventory space for cars, and (2) redeem the margin in the truck while taking only what works out to a small loss on the car giveaway. It will be interesting to see if other dealerships do something similiar.

Wouldn't surprise me to see a lot of dealers do this. I traded in my 2005 GMC Sierra 2500 SLT Crew Cab w/ 40k miles for 17k which got me my Cobalt and they originally wanted 21k on the lot for it, now it's down to 18k in just 2 months! Luckily for all of us Cobalt owners though is that as long as gas prices remain high our cars will hold their value because the dealers can sell them for more money then used trucks. Around here though new trucks still sell like crazy since we're in the lower part of the country gas price wise and there's a LOT of country roads around. Used trucks though, not selling at all.

Im very sure you will have to pay MSRP for the SUV.

1: $50,000 suv = around $840 a month with low interest, 60 months with free cobalt

or

2: wait for sales get 10 grand off sticker pay about 670 for SUV
13,000 cobalt for around 220 a month.

Theres about $50 a month diffrence but heres the problem....if you deside to trade in the SUV later your 10 grand upside down. The only way to do away from that is to either pay a hell of alot more or trade in the Cobalt too.

No I haven't but I assume most of the suburbans on that dealers lot are 06's and 07's not 08's.

Nope about 99% are 08. SUV were selling up until about 7 or 8 months ago. They never were just fast rapid sellers but they "were" steady sellers

lol there are too many 08s on the lots and hardly an 07. 06 those have been long gone. but yea a fully loaded suburban is right around the 50k mark

Actually in the video it was about trucks, not SUVs, though the news mentioned them in the coverage. They do go hand in hand in terms of margin, etc. A new 2500HD Duramax LS or LT stickers at about 40 give or take a few grand depending on options. We just bought a new one here at work, it is maxed out loaded with every bell and whistle that could possibly come with it from the factory. Sticker was 52K. A CC 1500 varies. MSRP on most is about 31-32 for an LS package. Step up to more goodies and it can reach 40K MSRP. I know because I almost bought a brand new GMC Sierra before I bought my Cobalt.

I had a 2500 Sierra SLT crew cab with a limited deluxe package that was only offered for the 05 2500 and 3500 Sierra's which had a sticker price of 50k. However my dads GM employee discount and trading in his previous truck had brought it down to like 27-30k. (I didn't buy it new lol, my dad had it for 2 years before I did.)
