Trust me I am not trying to win a popularity contest by being a smartass, right now your car is a unibody structure that has cromple zones that will deform (as designed) to cushion the impact from what ever your hitting or being hit by. Now you throw in a roll cage and heck the car should handle better by being stiffer might be a little slower from the added weight but since it is stiffened it will now not crumple like it was designed putting more stress on your body. Now if one of the top bars runs near your head and you take a really hard hit from the side your head could come into contact with the bar and make some serious damage to your head.

It is your car so you can do what you want to.

well i do understand what your saying but wouldnt you think if the car were rolling it would be better to have it stiff as possible. but yes like the cage on here how it goes into the trunk, i believe you would be right about wanting the crumple zone so that it takes away some of the impact

If your planing to drive with a racing harness you want a roll bar, if your not planing to have a harness the way the stock seat belts are your (supposed) to fall to the center of the car when it rolls. I haven't rolled a car so I can't say if that is true but if your in a harness in a car without a roll bar and the roof comes down you are going to be a hurting unit becuase what ever weight ends up compressing the roof will then be put on your head and neck and I guess disable you or kill you.

after looking at the pictures of the red Cobalt those leg bars look like a really big pain and no affence but spending all the money that you will and have on that car I would have thought you would have chosen a nicer set of seats for it, not really bashing the seats heck I have one in my Z24 that I autocross(not much money spent on it for autocrossing)

You realize the chances of you rolling are very slim.

its a whole lot easier to roll a cherokee then a cobalt...throw ur cobalt into a corner...then throw ur cherokee into that same corner...its called body roll.

The choice was to spend a couple of grand on seats or go fast parts. Guess what my choice was. I am not building a "show car" so I don't really care about the cheap seats. Besides I am looking at certain sponsorships which may yeild some better seats. You would be suprised how highly discounted parts can change a persons mind.

I rolled my cavalier 7 times(from what witnesses say) when some jackass ran me off the highway. I have pics somewhere. It was two end over end and 5 barrel roles starting a 70 mph. My passenger and I walked away. So I guess if the circumstances are right it is pretty easy. Whether a cage would of helped or hurt I don't really know.
