Can't Decide! Cobalt or 350z!?
So later this year I'm hoping to buy a new car. I currently drive an 07 LS which my parents bought and if it was my money, I would have dug up the extra couple grand and just went with the SS. Now, I'm debating between an 05/06 POSSIBLY 08 SS vs an 04 350z. I would love to have an 08 since they crank 260hp. However, my g.f is terribly in love with the 350z and I've always liked it to. Tough choice. I know im going to hear "cobalt" for all the answers since this IS a Cobalt forum, but I just want some opinions!
I'm hoping that by December of this year, 2008 SS prices will be down between 10-12k. Plausible? Hopefully.

You won't hear "Cobalt!" from everyone here, I swear when this question pops up everyone hates their car haha. The Cobalt and 350 are not really even comparable. I don't really find one a lot better than the other but they are both great in their own ways.
Have you considered modifying your current car? It has a lot of potential for a lot less than a new one.

i was actually in this same debate about two months ago- it all depends on what you are looking for- do you have something else to drive in the winter? z's not really going anywhere in the winter- cobalt can with good tires- as far as power goes you are getting far more bang for your buck with a tc cobalt- even with modding- you would have to do ALOT to get to where you will be with a tc with downpipe and trifecta tune- and i mean ALOT- with the Z you are getting what i think is a "nicer" car- its a bigger head turner, you wont ever get the "oh its just a 350z" like we do with the "oh its just a cobalt" if its a ss/sc over a 350z i say Z all the way but a tc over a z i would say as far as modding goes best bang for your buck goes with the tc- and thats what i chose! :-)

This. You could get an S14 for 5k easy, LS1 motorset for 3-4k, and either the Sikky/Fueled Racing conversion kit for 2.5-2.7k. And use another 1-2k for supporting mods.

Buy a GTO instead of both. Preferably 05-06, but if money is tight then get an 04. To be honest with you, the Cobalt, Z, and GTO are all ugly cars but the GTO is the fastest and has the nicest interior. If mileage is a concern, get the Cobalt SS.

I was the same way a few months ago i went with the cobalt because there is no room in the Z at all the trunk was just way too small. the cobalts trunk isnt huge by any means but it is a lot better then the Z

to be honest id go z. you dont seem to be into modding to much. so thats not a big factor. ig you want a decently quick car and a nice car at that get the z. the cobalt tc are so sexy but like everyone knows. its just a cobalt.. dont get me wrong i ******* lovvveeee my ss sc. but the interior is alllll plastic except the seats and tiny parts scatters like some door trim and blah blah. from what i have heard the 350 is he same way but sportier. my brother has the big brother to the 350z. he has an 05 g35 coupe. his car was omg in the snow when he got it. absolutely terrible. and it didnt help it was rear wheel drive. but he got snow tires and now his car is better than mine. ha and mine sux to. i need to get snow tires. anyways. off topic. they are both about the same in snow with snow tires. front wheel drive is just a bit easier. another thing to think about is luggage space. the 350 is essentially considered a hatchback so it has veryyy little room inside. the cobalt has a full trunk and back seat. the nissan will probobly be very expensive to fix and maintain like my brother g35. it may be because its infiniti but theyre the same companty. but the cobalt isnt that expensive to maintain. the speed of the carr, i dont get the vibe that you care if your car can go 165 mph over 140. they are both quick cars. the cool thing about the cobalt is its turbo. gotta love turbos. the 350 is just naturally aspirated. another thing to think about is the cobalt is probobly better on gas being a 4 cylinder and all but depends on how you drive really. uhh... idk what grade has the 350 takes but the cobalt takes premium which isnt cheap.
thats pretty much all ive got right now.. but get the car you want. trust me.. if your gonna spend alot of money on a car think about everything youll need and want and what you like and dont like... if you really like music, the cobalt has a stock 10 inch sub in the trunk and a pioneer surround sound system. idk what the 350 has. ha now that i say that.. my brothers g35 has a bose system. ha but again thats an infiniti. ok im done now. but think of everything before you make a decision. your gonna use your car for different reasons than these guys your asking opinions from.
good luck man and hope you make a good choice that your happy with.
do some homework

If you are into modding...dont bother with a 03-06 Z save your pennies until you can afford an 07-08. The HR engine responds alot better to bolt ons. Keep in mind parts for the Z are EXPENSIVE as hell. You wont get stuff anywhere close to prices you see for modding a cobalt.
If you don't care about modding and just want something to daily drive then the Z is fine as long as you arent driving it in the winter. Mine doesnt move pretty much all winter...its useless.
Owning both of the cars in question honestly the SS is better suited for daily driving purposes. My Z only comes out in nice weather and on weekends. I didnt intend for it to be that way it just kind of happened. The Z sucks in the winter, sucks for hauling stuff (biggest thing I ever fit in there was the rockband box lol), and it sucks if you need to take people anywhere with you. Maybe you should consider throwing a G35 in the mix as well...same engine as the Z and responds to the same mods but is a much more practical vehicle if this is going to be your only car.

I guess this would be a great opportunity to learn more about cars. I'm a PC technician, senior year of high school so you can guess that my taste in cars is "look good, go fast (up to the speed limit :P) hahah. SO do you mean like, finding a Turbo kit for my 07 LS?, cold air intake, exhaust...ect.?

dude. not everybody is willing to spend all there money hoping that there build will work out. not to mention not everybody wants to build there car. again. this kid i can tell doesnt really give a **** if his car has 350 hp or 260. aslong as his car in considered quick to other people and its nice he isnt gonna ccare.
