Can't diagnose thru OBD

I went to autozone to get my check engine light checked and 2 of the autozone's said that they couldn't read it, saying it was a bad connection. Anybody had this problem before or know what to do to fix it?

Have a dealer scan it? Know anyone with hptuners or an interceptor gauge?

check your lighter fuse. the OBD port gets its power from that circuit and if the fuse is blown then you won't be able to connect to the OBD system

I would try another place. Normally Autoznes don't take very good care of their OBDII readers so they tend to get banned up pretty quickly. Worst case scenario is you have a bad OBDII connection and you will have to get that fixed before you can fix your problem

I had the same problem with my car throwing a cat efficiency code but I didn't know and autozone and pepboys couldn't read it so I took it to the dealer and they could read it. Idk why though

if your fuse is OK and it still acts up then its the reader some time the readers software is out of date.

Does your car have onstar?

Ive found cars with onstar do this. if you are using an out of date OBII reader i think it does not properly disable the onstar or what ever to read the ecm

Your car knows when a scan tool is plugged in(there maybe better wording on this but im just trying to explain)

When connected to my 09 ss/tc it says it can not connect. What you need to do is turn the key in the run position let it start to connect then turn the key back one spot to the aux position then it will connect. Its crazy but it works trust me. then when it comes time to read/erase the code turn the key back on.

ill see if i can make a video but trust me if your fuse if good you should have them try that. mine does the same thing when connected to CERTAIN scan tools(cheap ones).
