Care Package???

Any Cobalt SS Supercharged owners heard about a care package supposedly being mailed out a few weeks after you take delivery? I called a dealership in regards to some touch up paint (yeah, already got a little nick on my front bumper ) and the parts rep said since I purchased a SS Supercharged, I should receive a kit with touch up paint and some other items. On another note, I am getting my Paint Protection Film installed tomorrow, but I want to get this nick filled in before. I've called all Chevy dealers in the area and everyone of them keeps telling me 7-10 days. I've got to get it done to minimize further damage. Anybody trust touch up paint from the chain auto parts stores? Wal-Mart? PPG distributor?

That settles it. I guess I'll just stop driving and catch the train to work. And while I'm at it, I'll put off the paint protection film too...

I have bought 3 new GM vehicles and never got a care package after the purchase. I think you got a load of BS. You do get a survey about your experience if you wanna hammer on em about have at it.

Yeha never heard of a care package either... driving a GM car now and ordered a cobalt...You should get one or more phone calls though asking on service and i'm sure if you say you were promised this "care package" they might deliver to make sure you buy GM again.

When I got my 98 Chevy Blazer about a month later I got a zippered bag that had a Mag light, coffee cup, umbrella, and first aid kit (bandaids and alchol wipes) that had the Chevy and Blazer logos on them.

Was it something from your dealer or gm directly. I could definetly go for some free gm stuff.

My dad gave me some rubber mats when I got my car That way I don't mess up the stock ones.

What is this paint protection package that was mentioned? Is it a dealer thing or aftermarket?

I live up where there are alot of dump trucks driving on the roads because of new housing developments and I find the the front end of my car (waiting for my SS) gets literally sandblasted from all the sand and such.

I don't want this to happen to my new SS when it arrives. Is there some sort of film that can be applied over the front numper? I know there is a clear film you can apply on the fisrt few inches of the hood but what about the bumper.

Someone might come out with a paint protection film kit for the base models, but I doubt for the SS's. There won't be enough demand. But a decent sign shop (I mean a reputable one, not anything like a Fast Signs, Sign-A-Rama, or a Signs Now) might be able to help you out. The film is basically the same thing used to laminate vinyl graphics with, but a little thicker. They would have to cut it into custom-sized pieces to fit the front fascia. If they mention Dupont Teflon, don't get it! Dupont makes a graffiti-proof laminate for vinyl that doesn't hold up very well. My former employer was the first to use it on a city bus when it came out, and just 6 months later it yellowed and cracked, not to mention it's too stiff to stay down around curved surfaces very well.

The only thing my dealer offered me was a "special wax" at an additional charge, of course. Even the cars I bought used from dealerships I was later sent a bottle of touch-up. But I haven't received anything from this one for my SS/SC.

My dealer (Bill Heard) scooted me out the door after I signed the papers and I never heard from them since, even after I called them about problems they never returned my calls. So I go to a different Chevy dealer (Michael Holley) for problems, now. They've been a huge improvement and have been working very well with me, even though I didn't buy the car from them.

I remember reading some tooner mag and it had an ad for some sort of film you can apply to the front end of the car. I tossed the mag a while back so I can't remember the name of the stuff.

3M Paint Protection Film...

Folks, it's called Paint Protection Film. 3M used to make it to protect helicopters' rotors from damage from debris, etc. Now they sell it for vehicles to protect from bugs, rock chips, and any other stuff on the roads. It's a semi-permanent film and it doesn't ruin your paint once it's taken off. I think it works pretty good from what I've seen, and some installers even carry a LIFETIME warranty. You can install it yourself, but it's highly recommended to have an installer do it INDOORS, because they will usually have computer-cut pieces. The film is usually installed on all leading edges of your vehicle (bumper. headlights, wheel flares, side mirrors, hood) but you can get it customized also. I'm seriously thinking about getting it. I have been quoted from $500 with a year warranty to around $900 with the lifetime warranty. The folks who quoted $500 eventually said they don't have the cut when I got my SS Supercharged two weeks ago.

This isn't the same as the paint protection package that the dealer offers is it?

When I ordered my SS they tried sell me some paint protection package, leather protection package and rustproofing.

I still have the option to get them but I would like some feedback on these items.

Is the paint protection package worth it? How about for the leather?

For rustproofing they were trying to sell me some electrical module that electrically makes the car corrosion resistant or I could just get them to do a regular spray.

Any thoughts.

Don't get any of them. Read any "how-to" guide on buying a new car.

My dealer also tried to charge me extra for a"Simonz environmental protection package". I'm pretty sure it is just what they like to call "paint sealant" (fancy name for wax, I do believe). I'd make sure to find out what they mean exactly before buying in to any of that.
