Chariot of the Gods

Have been shifting my SS between 2.5 and 3 grand most of the time and hit the impressive average of 25 mpg for the first time this week.

I'm not going for high mpg mind you... I just keep checking the average because it's damn good.

I have fun rowing through the gears... and have shifted higher - BUT - car picks up speed so fast that I'm usually over the speed limit and need to slow it down.

I've gone out very early in the morning on Weekends to have some empty roads ... every time I see the police lurking .. I have '0' points for the first time in a few years and don't want to change that.

I have no interest in road racing or testing the claimed 160 top. I just want to open it up a few times from rest to quarter to feel the power and see what 'I' can do with it.

Anyone that has followed road tests knows the performance #'s of the stock car.. Chevy claimed a conservative 0-60 of 5.7. Every test I read where they actually put instrumentation on it got 5.5... the quickest being (that I have seen) 5.4 to 60 and 104 in the Qrt by Road and Track... would like to see how close I can get... once or twice anyway... it is my daily driver

Can someone please let me know of a good track around the NJ/ PA area... One from personal experience? One that will be able to give me my 0-60 and Quarter times. Only straight line speed. I know the car is an outstanding track car (per pro tests)... But have no interest in that unless I have had some professional training first. Thanks !

I hear its not good anyways to shift cars and lug them? I heard being too nice to the throttle can build up carbon deposits?

these cars are made to be shifted a little higher.. I usually shift around 3k..ish, depending on my mood haha, I love to open the taps regularly

John, I know you said you don't want to get the Stage 1 kit, but...
if you like staying in the low RPM's, my oh my would you love this kit. I had it installed on mine last week and it has so much more power in the lower range. It's also less nervous in 1st and 2nd gear (no more spilling Starbucks!)

Impressive Princess ! Your tuned car is averaging better mileage than my stock - I didn't think that would be possible with performance mods. I only work 10 months a year though - so - without that 35 mile trip each way each day (which I miss now because I love driving my car) I've just been doing short trips around town... not many highway miles.

Not that we purchased high performance cars for the mpg.. but it is a nice perk

And agree... feel sorry for those thirsty V8's and V6's - We can beat or stay with most of them and save a few bucks while doing it.

I've heard that Stevo.. the engines like to rev.. mild street legal race cars. I shift like you most of the time for normal driving at 3 grand.. engine likes it there... and seems to like it more at 4 grand and even more at 5 and....

I'm not sure about speed limits and License points/ car insurance in Canada... But in the U.S the speed limits are set pretty low... I'm usually going about 10 mph over just about every one.. I would say about 75 % of people do that... you almost have to or you'll get run over. BUT.. over that 10 mph.. rarely.. once you get some insurance points and see how much your insurance bill goes up - you slow it down a little.

Also depends where you live here of course... I live in an area where not many roads are not patrolled - hard to open her up. Still fun just getting up to/ just beyond that speed limit though

Thanks dude.. I'll check more in to it.

Virtually anyone can compete in drag racing at Englishtown’s Raceway Park with some stipulations. Drivers must be capable of operating the vehicle safely and must have a valid state- or government-issued driver’s license beyond a learner’s-permit level. In some cases, a driver must possess an NHRA competition license. Most street vehicles must meet basic safety criteria, while faster, high-performance racecars must meet more stringent requirements as outlined throughout the NHRA Rulebook.
