2006 manual cobalt lt , mods: gm sports exhaust, 12000 miles 1 year + ownership with no problem. pushed rather hard in the end before i ve traded it for my cobalt ss s/c
2007 cobalt ss s/c: mods: turbotechracing motor mount & trans bushing, 13000 miles no issues 30 mpg.
kept up with all recommended services.

The 2005 missed the bare minimum by a single response. So still especially need more of that year and the 2008.

'06 SS:
Purchased brand new.
1. Sunroof motor died. Replaced under warranty.
2. Something in the exhaust system broke, caused car to run like crap with too much backpressure. Replaced under warranty.
And last but not least, the damn paint peeling inside on the door handles. This really drives me nuts, as it looks like ****. Is there anything that can be done about it?

reliability is a crock ... Not everyone uses the clutch the same or shifts the same or garage keeps the car or changes oil with good stuff just because they see a commercial for penzoil they pry use that cat ****. Or not every one pays attention to small noises that turn into big problems. Reliability ratings are not worth a ****.. Yeah lexus has and Buick have a good reliability rating but the 70 yr old retired doctors and veterans that drive them drive like freaking snails so how is this accurate if you are getting a reliability survey from people who mod and drive the cars like rocket ships? I bet you if you I drove my car like grandma does it would last untill I die too.

I understand what you're saying, but most of the repairs people report for cars in their first 3-5 years are not related to driving style or maintenance. Things like power window regulators and sensors.
No doubt these factors become more important as cars get older, though. Especially with what seems to be your focus: how long the car lasts.

The latest results of the Vehicle Reliability Survey, based on owner experiences through the end of September 2008, have been released.
In terms of successful repair trips per 100 vehicles per year:
2005: 17, much better than average, but VERY small sample size; actual repair rate almost certainly higher, probably about average
2006: 75, about average
2007: 46, about average, maybe a bit better (includes G5)
2008 and 2009: insufficient data
Descriptions of all reported repairs have been posted to the site, for those interested in that level of detail.
Additional participants would be very helpful, especially for the 2008 and 2009.

I've had my 06 SS/SC for about 4 months now @ 32k currently. hmm whats went wrong... i had condensation in my headlamp. which was replaced by dealership under warranty. when it became more and more cold out i heard some loose stuff poping around. went to the dealer and with no problem they replaced both driver side and passenger side strut mounts. than actually said my A piller where my boost gauge is. well the a-piller was bent out a little bit and said they put a new one in for me. i did remember it behind flaired out a bit but i guess it bothered the mechanic lol. other than that. i never had a cel, no issues. car is friggin strong as anything. BEST car i've ever owned i will never get rid of it. i will keep her for ever and ever. my next car will be a TC
LMFAO the only thing that on that list thats not YOUR fault is the strut and gas guage , all that other **** is wear an tear ive had my balt for a while now , no rips or scratches on my bezels no squeaking and .... and you had a problem with a strut and gas guage and call your call unreliable ??? you have no idea what your saying or doing for that matter , thats like saying my bike is unreliable the bell doesnt work........
people keep posting **** like i got hit or something got stole. THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CAR

I've had plenty of things go wrong with my cobalt, some of it is kinda stupid but oh well.
got the car with 11k miles on it
it already had peeled bezel paint (everyone has this almost)
and bad sunroof bezel
I fixed that myself and painted the bezels, hasn't peeled since (I guess im a better painter than gm)
My Wipers stopped working, a bolt came off that held the linkage to the motor. after this the motor stops in the wrong position (it stops in the middle, and yes the linkage is on correctly) Still have yet to fix this, Im assuming the motor just got jogged a bit and forgot its home position so I will be replacing the motor.

water leaks in through the doors at carwashes, turns out it was a strip that runs along the roof, it cleaned it out as per someone heres suggestion and it was fixed.
hmm... key gets stuck in the ignition alot, but you just have to jiggle the steering wheel, alot of cars do this.
I forget what else but theres more, and its all pretty much minor.

how do u get 345 hp out of a cobalt? u trade it in for a hemi truck. idk about u guys but thd reliability of my cobalt sucked. i think its safe to say that nobody wants their brand new car to rattle, which mine did. if u're about to hit anything the size of a squirl, u'r screwed. i hit a raccoon doing 45 tore it up. thats right, A RACCOON. 500 dollar deductable right there. the invoice from the dealer said it was over $1k in damages. not even a month later after getting it fixed, i hit a fox doing 55 and it totally obliterates the front end. another 500 for the deductable for a repair that was over $2k in damages and repair. im not a shitty driver, those animals didnt decide to cross the road until i got there. then i had the recall about more cushion in roof of the car. during fall of 06, i couldnt take my keys out of the ignition and the dealer had to replace a faulty wiring harness to fix that. with all of that, i had issues with the trim chipping and cloth trim on my door coming undone. had the dealer fix that under warranty and they acted like pissants about it too. i didnt like the reliability and quality of the car and its because of it and my local dealer that i got a hemi truck. i got broadsided by 2 deer a few weeks ago and it doesnt look like anything happened to it until u get up close to it. if i had had the car then, i shudder to think what the result would have been. flame me all u want but u know what im talking about
