Cobalt 2.4 SS/NA TIRES!
Cobalt 2.4 SS/NA TIRES!
I have got to get some new tires ASAP. Right now I have the 205/50/17 Pirelli Tires that came with the car. And the Stock 17" rims that came with it.
My biggest concern is the Tire height(due to scrapes on steep drive ways) As well as Tire size and noise. Im looking at upgrading to 225/45/17. I am wondering if the car will sit lower than the stock tires. Due to bad roads(Houston) I have to atleased have the same car height off the ground as stock. If anyone can help with this Id really appreciate it.
Im looking at :
225/45/17
Goodyear Eagle GTs
BF Goodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S
Pirelli P-Zero Nero
If anyone has any comments on these tires as far as road noise and grip id appreciate it as well.
Thanks

I"ve heard nothing but good things about the Goodyear Eagle GT's.
I had a pair of Neros on the SS/SC and loved them, but I've talked to other people that hated them. They're a very hit or miss tire.
Of the 3 you listed, I'd go with the GT's.

You will be about .05" lower than the stock comparing new to new - guessing you will gain a bit of clearance just because of the tread thickness. Not enough difference to worry about.
Side question(s) for the op - P6's were on the car stock? How many miles did you get out of them?
Mine are done to the point of needing 4 fresh doughnuts when the winters come back off, got a bit over 30,000 miles - expected more given my 80 mile per day highway commute.
FWIW, here is a handy calculator, lets you spec different tire sizes, see what the differences are in height, speedo error, etc. http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp

Thanks to everyone for the great responses. This question has been buggin me all week.
To Dabuzzard: Yes, The "Pirelli Four Seasons" came with the car. Im at about 35,000 Miles and they probly have about another 2K miles left on them. I travel on BAD roads and do about a 50mile commute daily. It seems like these Tires get LOADER and LOADER every day. I mean almost as if they echo road bumps or pot holes down the neighborhood! (not kidding)
To UnLiMiTed: How are your Tires when it comes it Road Noise? It looks like those tires are about the same price.

Iv Heard that placing bigger tires on than stock can do harm to the car as well. As far as Tranny wear, Speedo missreads ect. Anyone had any experience with this? Also would it effect turing ability(rub the sides and what not) Anyone else with 225/45/17or19s on?

The 225 45 17's will give you about 0.2 mph error at 60, not enough to worry about - and not going to hurt your car at all.
For a 19" tire with a 225 section width you would have to go with a 35 series tire (225 35 19) to stay in the range for diameter - going to ride harsh as hell on bad roads.
And yes, they get hella loud once they wear down to the bars
