Cobalt "bucking" under throttle
Cobalt "bucking" under throttle
Ok so a few days ago i was driving the car pretty hard. It handled it as good as new with no hesitation, no bucking, nothing wrong what-so-ever. Today i go for a spin not driving nearly as hard and on the way back it randomly starts to buck under throttle as if you were an amature with cluth, however my foot was not near the clutch and i was at speed, about 40 mph or so. I pulled into a parking lot and checked my intake, everything sound. I pull my dipstick, engine off of course, and no oil appears ont he dip stick. I bought 2 quarts of mobil 1 5w-30 and started filling it. after a quart and a half the dip stick finally showed that it had oil on it and the problem eventually resolved itself...for today. My question is, do these engine eat a little oil when driven hard?...i mean back roads hard, at high rpms to keep it in the power through every turn etc. Any ideas or help would be appreciated, apparently the car got an oil change a thousand miles ago...im thinking i beg to differ at this point and i will be doing a complete oil change soon.
The oil had to go somewhere...
You may be burning it or it could be seeping into your coolant. Check the coolant tank to see if it has a murky/non-pink color. Also note if the car makes smoke.
It's also possible that you've simply got a leak somewhere.
If it contines bucking, post up.

could it be that the person who did the oil change before only put in 5 qts thinking it was a 2.4 ss ? just asking as its happened to other people.
Alright well ill check my parking spot tomorrow as well as the oil level on the dipstick again. Im speculating that the dealership never did the oil change and said they did. i dont know for sure of course but its the only thing i can think of for this to happen. ill take it for a drive tomorrow and post again.
This is a good point too. Perhaps they didn't put enough oil in it from the get-go. Maybe you could drive it and keep tabs on the dipstick. If it doesn't move after this, then maybe that's what it was.
he said the dipstick showed no oil... did they forget to put it in? I dont see the motor running that long though with no oil..
Well TCs take less than SCs for instance, so I was just making the point that there was the possibility that he put oil in it... just not enough.
my car did the same , no clue, i had my bro and friend drive it to fla for me, nad before they came they told me i was a quart low!! i had an oil change prob 5k before that, ( i used the 15k mile oil) so i dunno, must have burned a bit,. but all good chevys burn oil
they could have just filled the oil up till it was good on the dipstick without starting it, then started it and the oil filled all the passages and what not after the engine was running for a while. Then, nobody checks the oil after and it is low. I know with all my oil changes i do this, and usually have to add at least a half a liter.
And expecially since the guy changing your oil is probably not a day older than 16, i would guess this is what happended (or at least the oil-changers are at my gm dealership). So, always change your own oil.

Alright guys i checked the oil level. It is clearly on the dip stick now. I definitely believe the cause was the aforementioned confusion of a rAtard thinking it was 5 qts as opposed to 6.5. I am still going to do a complete oil change on my own this weekend and just not drive the car much this week as i am at school and it usually just sits. Yesterday when i went for a drive i had a little shopping to do, temp dropped to 156 as it sat for just a little while...well with that particular startup it started to bog under idle so i brought the revs up so it wouldnt stall and the problem didnt continue. I definitely need to just do the oil change this weekend and get this corrected! I seriously cannot believe this engine went through what i did this past weekend with only 5 qts in it. I feel so bad for it :-( I was with a group of friends, an evo was behind me, so i was pushing this car as hard as it could go, still shocked nothing bad happened.
