Question Cobalt Front End Clunk

I've done a bunch of searching on this problem, but cant find exactly what I need.

I have a 2007 Sedan LS with a loud clunk in the driver's side front end when I hit any type of bump. I also have a small clunk coming from the same location when I feather the pedal at high way speeds.

I've replaced the sway bar end links and the control arm bushings. everything else seems to be in good condition, but I'm still getting the noise. I have no idea where its coming from!

TIA!!

Possibly rubber strut mount bushings? In all honesty though, it's a Cobalt. I don't think I've ever heard a quiet one.

Or loose swaybar endlink, or the CABs are shot again, OEM CABs are not exactly the best design

what did you torque the cab bolts to? the spec is 75 ft lbs plus 180 degrees = 145 ft lbs.
did you do that?
wondering

Just replaced the CABs last week with moog replacements. Torqued everything to specs. And just recheck torques tonight.

Axle shafts have no "in/out" play. Struts seem ok. What's a good way to check them?

Check your steering column. Put ur key in the ignition and turn the key to unlock u wheel but dont start ur car. Shake the wheel back and forth and listen for the noise. If not that i would think stuts. On my trans am they would clunk over any small bump. Is it just a clunk or rattling?

its an LS . Your sway bar bushings are shot I expect and single bolt and tab fixing for the bushing is fail for sure. update/upgrade.

sway bar bushings seem solid and I can get any play out of them. I removed the end links and it still makes noise. End links were just replaced also, and they are also torqued to specs which I believe is 50ft/lbs.

Suspension is all stock. However I was playing around with the idea of lowering it.

If I turn the wheel with the car off, it makes a small clunk when I turn it side to side. Not sure it that's the same clunk just magnified when going over bumps?

I'm about ready to just give up with it lol. It doesn't seem to be hurting anything, just annoying.

I'm in the same boat. I think the clunking when you turn the wheel is the intermediate steering shaft.

There is a TSB on clunks. It's many pages long. It's on here. Google can find it

the clunking noise when u turn ur wheel is ur intermediate shaft. Either replace that or buy a whole new column. Mine did that too but i replaced all my suspension and it quieted it up from the smoother ride

Hi JP

Would you like for me to look up your VIN to see if there is a recall for this issue? If so please send me your VIN and current mileage by private message.
