It's identical to the ones used on other new and late model Chevrolets (i.e. my previous 2005 and 2004 Malibus, 2000 Blazer, and 2000 Malibus). The Cavalier had an older-type, two key system, but the Cobalt uses the same one key system as most other GM products.

So is it the remote, and then the key ...or is it just one key that is a remote too?

I assume you're asking if the key functions as a keyfob too. Nope, it doesn't...my LS came with keyless entry and it has a fob with the normal lock, unlock, trunk open and panic features. If you don't have the fob...you have just a key :P

Man, my battery ran out before I could take a picture of the key fob. Here is a ghetto drawing that probably will take a long time:

_______
/ -- --..\
| |U| |L|..|
| -- --...|
| --- ....|
| | T |....|
| ---.....|
| ---.....|
| | P |... |
| ---.....|
\_______/

Ok U:Unlock, L:Lock, T:Trunk, P panic. It looked like that. The periods are used as fillers so it wouldn't gayify my drawing. Ok...they were being used as fillers but it still messed up the drawing. Anyways use this:

......U L
........T
........P

It was two buttons up top and then the trunk and panic centered below that.

Its just a reg. GM key. No chip or anything, and no fob. I have a base model.

hmmm. The SS S/C I looked at today had a key fob in the glove box and the gm guy unlocked the trunk with a second one and the key. I wonder if it's on the SS as an option or standard.

I'll bet keyless entry is standard on all models except the base.

yeah i was just wondering if it was going to be anything special... like the lexus key is a fob/key in one, which is cool...or the v dub keys which are awesome. Oh well the key is a lot less important than the car

Ya, the new SAAB keys are like the lexus and new bmw keys ... where they are a key and fob all-in-one.

So does the Chevrolet Aveo Key. It is a key and FOB all in one.

If I'm not mistaken, the "fob" or "keyless entry remote" whichever you prefer, looks like the remotes on the malibu (without the remote start button).
