Unhappy Cobalt Killed

My car was taken out by a dodge ram that decided to make a u turn from the far lane right into my path. I hit him going about 40 and the airbag deployed. It may be a total loss . I have owned the car for less than a year, and it has less than 15,000 miles on it. My insurance company it Hartford. So I am hoping to god it will be replaced (it should be according to my insurance website). Anyone have any experience with a total loss. Do I keep the same financing/montly payment? Nobody I know knows anything about a total loss. I'm not even sure if it is a total loss, but I don't see how this car can be brought back. Anything you guys know would help me out a lot.

I've been in accidents before and none have been my fault, but I usually just go through my insurance because it is a lot faster, I am always refunded my deductible since the accidents havn't been my fault, I just never had a total loss

Be sure to strip all your aftermarket parts off before signing it over to the insurance. Assuming that they are still ok.

From what I have heard, the insurance should cut you a check for the value of the vehicle.

I have a friend who just had a similar experience cept it was an old man in a buick who didnt stop at a stop sign.

Anyway. He had a 2005 Mazda 6. He hit the dude at about 35 and his frame was bent so they totalled his car. usually when they total your car they will usually write you a check for what they believe it to be worth. This often sucks. They dont go off KBB (kelly blue booK) they usually go looking for a comparable car (usually the cheapest one they can find) and offer that to you or its cash value. IM sure it often times differs but this is what my friend is going through, so they want to give him 14000 for his 31000 Mazda 6. He still owes 12000 on it, so he would only get 2 g's out of htat and have to buy a new car with it. hes looking to sue the accident causer at this point because of the BS.

^ that's what I'm hoping won't happen. From my insurance companies policy=Full Replacement Value for New Cars
"If your new car is a total loss within the first 15 months or 15,000 miles,
whichever comes first, we’ll buy you a brand new car—same make, model
and equipment—or we’ll reimburse you with no deduction for
depreciation. This guarantee is automatically included with your
Comprehensive and Collision Coverage. This benefit may vary based on
applicable law. For example, depending on your state, the benefit may be
limited to up to six months or 7,500 miles, or up to 12 months or 15,000
miles. In the event of a loss, the terms of your policy, as limited by law,
will determine the actual coverage offered."

Keeping my fingers crossed

Hope that works out for you.

BTW did you tell your insurance about the CAI? If you did and gave them a copy of the reciept they will replace that aswell. The great part is, if it's in a factory location, they will not charge you more to insure it.

im not going to nail anything down here to you but did you opt for GAP insurance 10 bucks a month through the dealership when you buy it? because if you did you will get YOUR EXACT car back just brand new off the show room floor no matter what same money into it as your car had at the time of the accident. nothing changes really except its a new car that paid for before you got it.. well worth the 800 bucks in the end in my book

Good thing you have the GAP ins. your car is now paid off (if it's a total loss). Most cars if the air bag is deployed they will total it out. Post pic's if you've got them. Next LAWYER UP and sue the other guy for pain and suffering, the amount you've put into the car and for being an idiot If it's totaled they will want the car complete or they will deduct the value of whatever is missing. Take your AM exhaust off and take the OEM exhaust and just put it in the trunk let the adjuster know that it's there and take pictures so it doesn't disappear

Check a wrecking yard they usually have a contract with insurance companies to buy a total loss or they are auctioned off

my stock exhaust I sold to a friend, but I can probably get i back, I have gauges I know I will get out. Not probably going to pursue any legal action unless absoulutley neccessary, if I get a replacment car with no problems I am satisfied, we all make mistakes, ya know? I'm not out to make anyone's life miserable, I just want my ss back
