i should have close to ten grand down(5000 for trade in and save 4000 to 5000) my payment should be around 200 a month. car price is about 25,000.

200 a month at 10,000 down? I calculated at about 250-300 with my car being about 25,000 with about 4000-6000 down, 2300 gm credit, and 4000 trade-in. How many months are you looking at? I'm doing 48.

That's my favorite too... I'm under $150 a month on a base sedan.

Payments have been brought up before and caused much debate.

Here are the facts:

Payment is made up of three components
Amount financed (depends on what you buy and how much you put down)
Term (i.e. 48 months, 60 months, whatever)
Rate (i.e. 4.9% or whatever)

Knowing those three things payment is easy to calculate (there's payment calculators everywhere on the web).

Nobody on here can tell you what rate you qualify for though. For that you need to have your credit checked.

Rates range from 0-18% and can make a big difference in your payment.

yeah car sales men are crooks, unless your ready to fight. Dont go in there with a trade in, and try to get a car loan with a bank before you go in..

They will try to rip you off in someway, they make money on the sale of the car, your trade in and the interest rate..

Best way to get the cheaper car payment, is to sell your car on your own. Get a loan from your bank and figure out how much you think is a fair price for the car you want to buy..
then go to all the dealers in town till someone takes the offer..

Sometimes the dealers have finace companies that can give the best rates, but always have your approve loan on hand so they dont mess with you..

im lookin at 48 months, if i could get the payments at 200 then that would be great. i plan on workin for the whole summer so i can save for a big down payment.

i dont really like going to my dealership though b/c the salesman there try to get me to buy a car right then and there. I dont want a malibu or a cavalier! i want a cobalt ss s/c! and also when the guy from my dealership called to tell me they had coupes in i asked him about the ss s/c and he was like "i dont think your dad would want you to have one of those besides they run around 25,000 i dont think your dad wants to pay that much for a starter car". first of all bro, its not my first car, second please dont tell me what you think my dad wants for me lol b/c trust me he will buy the car i want. does anyone know of a non-rude way i can tell my dealer that im only interested in the ss s/c. i know that if i tell him just that, then he'll try to convince me to not buy one.

the reason i want low monthly payments is b/c i know insurance is gonna kill being that ill only be 17.

thanks for all the input.

Calculating your monthly payments.

It is extremely useful to have a Texas Instruments BAII PLUS calculator for almost any purchase in your lifetime. I would strongly suggest buying one and taking it to the dealer with you (they are under $20).

You can also find online payment calculators. Just do a search for them in Google.

If you guys need me to figure out your payments, just PM me with the figures and I would be more then glad to help out

Ok you have some pent up anger for dealers huh. You should also mention that if you let the dealer handle your trade in and loan applications you don't actually have to do ANY work selling your car or going around filling out applications for a loan.

My dealer has a finance person and they got me the best loan/interest rate I could find. Also they take care of the trade in, the paperwork, the liens, the payoff to the finance companies. This is all WORK that you would have to do yourself. If your time is worth something to you and you should consider that option. I can afford to not have to do all the leg work on my trade in so why would I care?

Yeah I love my dealership as well. They are a no haggle, no pressure, best price we can do is on the windshield place. If you don't like the price, then don't buy it there. Also, they gave me private party value on my trade in when I got my Ram, and I actually was looking at a used car when they took the extra time to let me know about the cobalts and the special they were running on them, even though used car sales and new car sales aren't even tied together. Best service I have ever seen from any dealership anywhere. I have owned 11 cars now, and my next will be from them as well.

I think its all in who you talk to

i mean, i dont think alot of the banks can offer 2.9/5.9% so we are saving there

as long as you are detailed in what you are looking for, payments you are looking for, the dealership should work with you

the last time i went in, they helped me alot, made sure i had the payments i needed and told me all the papers to fill out (not the SS)

i wont however, trade in my vehicle. You lose too much when you do

so i'll sell that privately and then get the SS. if i have to, i'l rent a car for a bit and i'll be set! (hopefully!)
