Cobalt SS questions

I am a former SRT-4 owner (dont knock it I LOVED that car) I currently drive an altima hyrbid and am looking to get into a cheaper car (reasons being due to the lovely housing market). I found an 06 SS for 15,8xx. I really don't know much about this car. I'm looking to get back into something fun yet still have good gas milage.

What can you guys tell me about the 06 cobalt ss? Does it take premium fuel? Whats the overall cost of the car as far as upkeep goes? Any other answers to questions I didn't ask would be awesome too! lol

Thanks!

Amity

Depending on how many miles are on it. That is a good price. I normally run plus in the tank(personal preference) but they will run off of regular. There is not much upkeep to these cars. Unless you want to build it up, even then, its not too expensive. Any other questions you might have. PM me and Ill get back to you.

umm.. the supercharged model MUST run on 91-93 octane..

If you do the math, its not worth it to run 87. 87 puts you on the low octane spark tables and it decreases fuel economy. so at the end of the day, you'll spend equal amounts on gas and have poor performance.

its always better to run premium in the tank...really when you think about it, it comes out to 3 or 4 dollars extra per tank to run premium instead of regular. if you run regular, the car will pull timing and not have the performance it should

i have stage 2 with full bolt-ons and i have 25mpg in the city and 34-35mpg on the highway

is the car an ss with the 2.4l n/a motor or an ss/sc with 2.0l supercharged motor??? they did make both ss models, and itll make a big difference.

i cant talk about the 2.4l, as i have an ss/sc. the cost to upkeep isnt that high. oil changes are a bit more as you must run synthetic, and the car takes 6.5l of oil. some parts are a little more money than a base model, not a whole lot. yes you need to run premium in it, you can fudge 87 however the car pulls timing and you end up getting worse fuel milage than on 91 or 94. speaking of fuel mileage, mine gets about 32mpg mixed freeway/in town, and have gotten 38mpg on freeway trips.

You start getting knock with regular gas, and once you dump stage 2 on your car, you MUST run 91 or higher.

Also there is no difference between model years, except 07s have drls running on the headlights, others have em on the parking lights. 07s have a 3 spoke steering wheel, others have 4 spoke.

Also I believe the 07s have a stock aux input on the stock radio, others do not. Oh and the badge placement on 05s differ from 06s and 07s, but debadged is better anyhow :p

Hope I got all that right!
