Cobalt SS S/C vs. Saab 9-2X Aero
Cobalt SS S/C vs. Saab 9-2X Aero
Ok so this whole GM employee discount for everyone thing got me looking at a whole lot of cars. A car that I had glanced at and not payed much attention to is the Saab 9-2X Aero...mainly because of it's $27,000 price tag.
It is a small wagon and comes with a 227 HP engine. Even though it weighs in at 3000+ pounds, the turbo keeps the car going to 60 in 6.1 seconds. Exactly the same as the Cobalt. So anyway, I looked up the GMS pricing on this car and it's at $19,400...almost $10K off. I was amazed.
It runs to 60 in the same amount of time as the Cobalt, has AWD for those winter trips or winter climate people, and has 4 doors and much more cargo space. I have to double check this with an actual Saab dealer, but this could be a deal I cannot refuse...even over the SS. I've broken it down to a few points:
Awarded by points.
Cobalt SS S/C
Speed: 1
Handling: 1
Exterior Looks: 1
Interior: 0
Poontang factor

Stereo: 1
All weather: 0
Friend space/cargo: 0

Almost completely even any way you look at it. I guess it comes down to whether you want more space for friends and a nicer interior at the cost of handling (.88g cobalt vs. .86g Saab), possible women infatuation, and a stronger stereo.
The Saab stereo is less powerful at only 140 watts, but it does have a 6-CD in dash changer. That could be offset if it doesn't read MP3's though. I just can't work this out. What is your guy's opinion?

I'd say add more 'detail' to your rankings by grading each on a 1-10 scale (instead of 0 or 1) in those catagories, and maybe you'll then see a difference.
Me personally.. no need to even think about it, SS S/C for sure is what I would choose between those two.

Not a bad price for a WRX with a better interior.
If it actually is that price, I am going to think long and hard on it this month.
On a completely unrelated note, my buddy from GM just called to see if I wanted to get together next weekend, he is putting some miles on a new CTS-V and coming to Chicago from Detroit. I guess it is a 2006 model, not released yet. Still doing final testing on it or something. Should be a fun toy. They let him take it as long as he promises to put at least 400 miles on it.
Like I said, I have to check into it, but it does seem to be almost 10K off MSRP. From that Adobe document it doesn't look like it. I had graded onto a scale of 1-10 before, but it didn't make sense so I just awarded 1 point to whatever I thought was better. I haven't seen or sat in the Saab, which I may do monday so I'll see. I also have to check insurance...if it's any more expensive than the Cobalt the Saab is probably out of the question.
I just liked the AWD and that it matched the speed of the cobalt. I have a group of four friends that may get midly annoyed in the cramped Cobalt getting in and out. I also play Ice Hockey and it would be nice to have some room to stick my gear (It also looks like it might fit inside of the cobalt).

Sadly, the GF is dragging me to a wedding in Houston that weekend, I had to decline his offer of a ride. I am sure he will tell me about it, if you all don't mind second hand stories.
Why dont you look at WRX compared to the SS/SC. WRX 0-60 is 5.3seconds.
Saabs are neat, Saab is a GM company....but the 9-2x is a SUBARU.....come on....and besides you ever had to work on that boxer4???? not for me pal....I get paid to work on em and I still hate that engine...ECOtec all the way.
Considering the fact that I probably won't even mod the Cobalt that much, I'm not too concerned about what engine it uses. If you did want to add upgrades it makes sense that any WRX engine parts would work in the Saab.
