Cobalt SS in Winter

Hey,
I want a Cobalt SS however, I have a few questions first. I live in Maine on the border of Maine and Canada. We get lots of snow between November and March. I was just wondering how many of you use a Cobalt SS in the snow? Would it be decent in the snow with some snow tires? Does it have enough ground clearance to make it through driveways that may have 3-5 inches of snow? Also, there are moose accidents here once in a while. I would like a truck for the safety in a crash, is the Cobalt SS decent in crashes from what you have heard?

-Thanks

If you buy an SS with the G85 package (limited slip differential) it does fine in the snow. In fact, just last night I took mine out in about 4 to 5 inches of snow covering the roadway and it done just fine. There was some tire spin on inclines of course but it always kept moving. Snow tires would of course help a great deal too as I'm running low profile goodyear eagle F1's - also it would help even more to buy a set of steel wheels from a base cobalt and run high profile snow tires with lower tire pressure. As for collisions, they appear to hold up well... see this thread:

My buddy has the SS/NA. He's on coilovers and slammed, about 3" of ground clarence. He does fine in the winter.

My cars's good in snow. I drive it in PA all the time at home and just recently yesterday in the snow storm here in VA. I don't have LSD and it did just fine, just have to know how to put the power to the wheels.

I did a winter in Ohio with mine and I spend a week in Michigan for Christmas every year. I've got all season tires and it wasn't a problem. There was probably about 8" of snow on the ground so it made a nice trail from where I snowplowed through it.

I tried pulling mine outta the garage to move it to my shop. It struggled to make it up the incline in my driveway. Its 5 degrees.

The incline is 5 degrees. That's what I meant... Haha

I live in central NH and it's my daily....

Still running the stock tires with way too many miles on them, and it's starting to get dangerous. With dedicated snow tires, you'll be fine.

Yeah good tires and a smart driver is what you need for good winter driving.

It's not the best winter car ever, but it does the job alright with the LSD. Just think ahead and don't do anything stupid and it's going to rip through any snow storm.

The Cobalt does really well with a set of snow tires and being that you're in an area that gets a pretty good amount of snow each year, I'd suggest that you invest in a set.

$600 in wheels and tires could save you several thousand in body shop repair bills.

My TC is a champ in the snow we get around here and I don't even have a heavy snow tire, I have a winter performance (Michelin Alpin PA3). If you get heavy snowfall you'd definitely want a beefy snow tire but yes they perform well in the snow as long as you can practice some throttle control .

What fun is that? You'll recognize me as the one going down the road bouncing it off the rev limiter.

Just like driving most front drive cars in snow. Tires make a difference too!
