Cobalt vs SRT-4 Reliability
Cobalt vs SRT-4 Reliability
I've been looking into a used sporty sedan to use a daily driver so I can turn my SS/TC into a weekend toy/track car. Recently I came across a 2004 SRT-4 at a local dealer. It looks like its in good shape and unmodified and is going for around 8k. The only problem is it has 96k miles on it. I was just wondering how reliable they are as compared to a Cobalt. I've also been looking at Cobalt SS/NA sedans in the same price range with slightly less mileage.
last time I checked, there's a lot more busted srt-4's than cobalts. Take that as you like, but just because it's unmodified at the dealer doesn't mean it wasn't modified before the dealer bought it.
The Tiburon will introduce you to components that you never even thought it was possibly to break, but are suddenly broken for no reason.
No surprise there, SRT-4's use a Mitsubishi turbo.
The only Civic I would consider would be an Si, but the new sedans are too expensive and hard to find used. I have seen a few '02-'05 hatchback models at a decent price with usually 60k-80k miles on them. Not a big fan of how the shifter is in the dash though.
You are WAY better off with a NA car. Less components to break. And since its a cobalt you already know stuff about them and you are a member here so help is a click away. A 2.4 ss sedan would be fun. It will have some pep but still be a good DD.
[QUOTE=08SSTCRD;5090927]Hyundai and reliable should never be used in the same sentence.

i had a 2003 tiburon that i ran up to over 100k miles and i had i/e/h. the only problem i ever had on that car was the ac go out. car was way more reliable than my cobalt

Dodge has its bad (and expensive) quirks with every vehicle they produce, car or truck. I don't care if it's called an SRT-4, it's still a Neon with a turbo, and Neon's have poor reliability no matter what the year or generation, same issues it seems and Dodge never did improve that or the motor. I'd be cautious on the decision of buying it, or have a good mechanic look it over for ya, and try to swing a decent warranty deal. I would go with an SS/NA or even just a LS or LT if you're looking for a cheap daily driver and economy. Mitsubishi turbo ya say? Guess they found that in the Eclipse scrap heap along with the GSX wing, slap it on a Neon, change the badge and hey look we got a new car! Seriously, my cousin just bought a SRT-4 and he said my Cobalt was a POS because I told him to lose the wing
I think he's still in the Fast and Furious age, can't see beyond the bright lights, unreliable speed and Optimus Prime look. What do I know anyways?
