Cooling Fan

Hey guys, I have a weird issue regarding the cooling fan.

If I turn the ac on, the fan will come on and it's about 40-50% louder than normal. The fan will not shut off when I turn the ac off if I am not moving, but once a drive a few feet it will shut off. Is this normal?

Also, sometimes the fan will not shut off until I shut the car off, and it seems to be like it's stuck in high speed mode. I put my hand on the housing and it quiets it down, but it's just weird. Any input? What do you guys think?

Sounds normal to me. A/C Will put the fan on high always, Coolant temp could be 50*, it will still be on.

So does your fan not shut off until you move after you turn the ac off?

i have no idea, but whats it matter? im sure there is a shut of time in the BCM. hell maybe it waits for you to move so that it knows there is air flowing through the radiator again.

It's just strange to me because sometimes it will not shut off. I have to turn the car off in order for it to shut off sometimes.

The real issues I am concerned with is the fan not shutting off (not the worst problem to have) and how loud it is. Any suggestions?

Cobalts, cavaliers, and im sure sunfires, etc. have loud fans. Windows down is best solution for the fan noise hahaha

That's what I always do, but sometimes it's unavoidable. Does yours not shut off sometimes? It seems louder when I turn the ac on which is weird. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like it.

It seems like it only goes into high mode, and there is no low mode.

what engine? the 2.4 has a low speed resistor bolted to the left bottom of the fan shroud that likes to rot out and prevent low speed from turning on.
