well....i work at a chevy dealer in az (#14 in the country out of 4000 or so).
anyway we got a truck load of coupes. they only dropped off 2 at our dealer, but the rest were sent to other dealers in the city.
but i was talking to the driver. And he gets the cars off a train in central phoenix and said they have about 15-30 im guessing( he said 2-3 aisles of them the wing and bigger wheels. But they are waiting on an Ok from Gm to start delivering to dealers. here and on west)
ill post pics tonight. And if you want proof go on to chevy.com
vehicle locate
2005
cobalt
base coupe
scottsdale
Arizona
and it will show 4-5 at different dealers
so SS shouldnt be that far off

Are these coupes saleable? Or are they just getting them out there for people to see? I noticed a few LS coupes in my general area(2 hours away) but they are automatics. My dealer is supposed to get back to me on Monday becuase he didn't know anything on Saturday. I really hope he can give me some news besides the usual 'I don't know'.
they sold the vehicle before i got a chance to take a pic.....it came at lunch so i went to walmart to get a disposable. and as soon as i got back they said the customer already picked it up. The sales guys said he found out about it on chevy.com and called reserved it. Was some old guy liek 40-50. he also ordered the SS wing front bumper, sides and back along with emblems.....so my guess is it will be dealer rice........or a shop picked it up and is gonna do something for the 2.2

damn! Get pics when he brings it for service.
There are a few base coupes around me; they are all manual. I went to look at an ornage one. It is a pretty sweet color. I also just found that there is a LS auto in yellow. I want to go test drive that. But the recent snow will make that hard for a few days. But once again. They say they have no idea when they are getting the SS. In fact, he told me that they were not supoosed to even get the regular coupes until july. Not sure where he got that info.

Everyone has a different story... It's making me think that certain dealerships will get the coupes in a lot quicker than others!!
Hi,
I had to call my salesman today to update my phone number and of course had to ask when he thought my car (Black SS) would be in. He thought it would be at least a couple more months as they have not begun to build the SS for consumers yet. I live in Central Florida and placed my order mid Dec. I guess the ones that have been at the recent shows are not consumer cars??? I remember being told, the day I placed the order, not to expect the car until July.

I just talked to the guys at my little remote dealership and the SS S/C we ordered has already started through the build cycle as we speak, so it looks as if it should be there by mid february hopefully.
The key is that we dropped the sunroof from our order, they are only producing 25% of the cars ordered with a sunroof right now.

So from what I can see here.. It looks like certain dealerships are getting the coupes in way before others.... And the SS is being built already... Hmmmm.. I am figuring since I life like 10 to 25 minutes away from NY City.. My dealership over here in Rockland County should be getting mine in soon... Plus, I asked him how many orders for the cobalt they had.. He said he couldn't tell me.. But he did say.. they had a lot!!!!

I'm willing to bet the pecking order for delivery is set by the hight gross car sales numbers for each dealer..... #1 get the first and so on down the line

Allocation questions
The allocation is based on several different things.
First, every dealership will get a few that they do not get to choose. Sedan, Coupe, SS (in that order)
Then they will start to allocate based on the number of Cavalier/Malibu/Monte Carlo sales, sorted in zones. Basically certain areas will get certain vehicles first, then the dealership in that area that sold the most Cavaliers during the same time last year will get first allocation. The Zones are pretty much California, Florida, and Texas first, NY and New England, then they kinda sort out the rest of the country. That is based on market.
The SS should ship the same way. As far as I can tell, they in fact have built some SS's yet, but have not shipped them anywhere.
Here in NC we're not expecting them until mid April (the SS's). However in Florida and SoCal you should be seeing them by late Feb. Vin's are typically available about two weeks before arrival at the dealership, based on the route and area (it takes about a full week to actually ship the vehicles.
However, none of this is official and I'm almost always wrong, but that's what they tell me.
