Cruise Control not engaging

So, I'm driving down the highway and figured I haven't used my cruise control in a while, so I tried to set it and it wouldn't engage. It flashed CRUISE ENGAGED for a split second and then disappeared. Is something wrong or is it because it displayed ICE POSSIBLE when I started the car. It's 27° out right now.

EDIT: I have LED tails but no leds in the third brake light. Anyone with LED tails please chime in if they are experiencing problems with their cruise control as well.

EDIT #2: Disconnected the battery for a little while and it reset. Cruise works again! This should be a how-to lol. Thanks to everyone for their help! That was the weiredest reason why the cruise didn't work...... foot resting on the clutch pedal... but anyawy... back to driving with my foot resting on the clutch again.

Check the light bulbs in your third brake light.

People who change the third brake light to LEDs had had problems with their cruise no longer working. If one of those bulbs is burned out it's possible that it may be screwing with your cruise.

I don't think my clutch is slipping... I thought it was but turned out just to be a traction issue (salt on ground) It should be about 40° by the end of the week, so I'll check my lights out then as well as disconnect the battery. Or, I'll just use my 100K warranty :-P

Clutch position sensor is going.

Try it again but this time pull up on the clutch before you hit the set button.

Same thing has happened to me twice now.

That could be debatable. I would think it would be, but I can see an ******* service rep saying you beat on it to cause it to fail.

Do the check I suggested first just to be sure.

I'll check that out, sounds more reasonable than "Check your bulbs in your third brake light" lol

Exactly why I suggested it. haha

But there could be something to the third brake light bulbs... That light only comes on when you hit the brakes. If the BCM senses, for some random reason, a light in on in there due to LEDs lower resistance then it could think that you are hitting the brake, turning cruise off.

But the clutch position switch is more likely in my mind.

that makes sense. Come to think of it, I haven't tried my cruise since I installed my LED tails. But I have resistors, so I dunno if that would help. I always drive with my fog lights on, so my LED tails are always lit up. I'll try it without my fogs on to see if that works.

Thank you all for your inputs, keep them coming if you have anymore ideas.

i bought my car a couple years ago with 19,ooo miles on it and i had problems with the car revving up when the clutch was engaged but i wasnt touching the gas pedal. i got that fixed and a week later tried to use the cruise control and it wouldnt work so i took it back. they told me it was because of a engine code that it had that wouldnt allow the cruise contol to engage. so i just say if you have warranty take it in and tell them what its doing and they should fix it at no cost.

It's because you ride the clutch.... even if you rest your foot on the clutch with slight pressure it causes this to happen. disconnect the battery, and you should be fine

I sometimes drive with my foot resting on the pedal, but not pushed in at ALL!

Third Brake Light - All Lights ON
Fog Lights off - Cruise still not engaging (didn't say Cruise Engaged at ALL this time)

Have not checked fuses yet (I'm at work)

Will disconnect the battery for a few minutes later tonight and I'll post again then. Thanks guys!

My money is on the battery.
I have this bad habit of driving with my foot on the clutch pedal, not engaging it, just holding pressure on it and my cruise went out on a 600 mile trip home (sucked).
Long story short, pull the negative on the battery for about 10 mins and hook it back up.

you dont have to push in the clutch. just resting your foot on it will activate the top clutch switch. the car will disable cruise control if it realizes you rest your foot there for long periods of time. just disconnect the battery for awhile and it should come back

You guys were right, disconnected the battery for half an hour (wanted it to be 10 minutes, but got caught up with something at work) Checked out at 50 mph, cruise worked! Thanks guys for all your help! That was the weirdest experience ever! Don't know how long it's been disabled, but I'll probably still drive with my foot resting on the pedal cause I never know when I have to shift lol.
