Cruize problems
Cruize problems
Well, I finally start to plan out my modding that I am going to do to my car and I find ANOTHER problem, unfortunately I do not know how to fix this one! I now no longer have cruise control on my car. I press the button, it lights up orange and the proceed to hit the set button and nothing happens. I dont know what to do. I have already had to fix the wiring once the stop a stall issue. I need to re tune the car. GM's S2 can tune is making her run way to rich...Anyone else have this problem in the past?
Very possibly could be a problem with one of the Clutch Pedal Switches. I believe there are 2. One for when its all the way down... and one for when its all the way up. Your problem would be with the one that senses that the pedal is all the way up. If the PCM/BCM doesn't see that the pedal is all the way up, it won't allow the car to set and maintain Cruise Control.
So another computer problem...augh. Do you know someone who is a "Cobalt" expert up in the NE? I want someone who could tell me every little thing done to the car, and what needs to be replaced fixed etc etc... Every time something gets fixed two or three new problems rise up. By the end of the year I'm going to have a new car!
Its not a computer problem... its a sensor problem, more than likely. And expert or not... no one other than the previous owner would be able to tell you EVERY little thing done to the car. As problems arise, fix them... or post up about them, if you are unsure of what to do. That's part of the problem with buying a used performance car... so you might as well get used to it.
Whatever you do... don't take it to a dealer to get fixed. They're almost always more trouble than anything else.
Had to take it to a dealer once. I needed to replace a fuel pump and managed to smooth talk my way into getting a free one and paying 50% on labor. So, that ended costing 110$. Other than that I've fixed everything except the new tires. Firestone did those. I have no clue how to look or fix this problem.
Get a new sensor. Remove the old one. Put on the new one. Done.
I don't know if there is a second sensor for sure though. Only one is popping up on GMPD. It might be under a different name though, I only searched for "clutch". If you're an 05, its $9.62 (MSRP: $18.50)... and if you're an 06-07 its $3.69 (MSRP: $7.10).
Maven would know for sure... don't know how often he checks this site though. Usually sticks to GMSC.

I experienced the same problem on my '07 with the 2.4L. I'm not sure if it would be different since you have an '06 2.0 SC. An additional thing I noticed when the cruise was not working was that the RPM's would take longer to drop when I push the clutch in and let off on the gas. The dealer scanned it and came up with a "clutch switch sensor B" or something like that. I looked up under the dash, found the switch, and said so myself, "holy crap. How the hell am I going to get to that switch???" It is located way up inside the dash, above the power steering motor. I had the dealer replace it. It was something like $7 for the switch, and over $100 in labor.
If you've been riding the clutch, or resting your foot on it, you can trick the car into thinking the switch is bad. Some people have had luck disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. You might try that since it is a whole lot cheaper than taking it to the dealer if there is really nothing wrong.

I had the same issue when I bought my 06 SS.. The dealer replaced all the switches and sensors, but still didn't fix it. They had to go in the computer and reset it.. Something about if the clutch pedal sensor says its in .001% engaged the computer can lock out the cruise.
I hope that helps if you have any questions pm me.

There's no reset in the computer. Almost 100% sure of that. If there is, disconnecting the NegCable should fix it.
Dealers have a tendency to make **** up that sounds cool/technical... when its really not.
