Thats why when I work under my car with it on a jack, I put a jack stand directly next to the jack, so if it falls, it falls maybe half and inch and the stand catches it. It works...trust me.

if your gonna put a jack stand next to the jack, why not just put the car on jack stands?

the car was on jack stands. the whole thing. he was putting his transmission back on after some clutch work. the whole car was up.

i use jack stands and i take a tire off and put it under there with me. so if the car falls, it falls on the tire and i can get out.

I do if i'm working on more then one part of the car, but most of the time I just need one wheel jacked up at a time, so I just use them as a safey precaution.

I gave you a simple way to be safe if your using a jack. Take it or leave it.

hmm the article said the jack shifted. didnt read the whole thread.

i was always taught never to work under a car just supported by a jack. a friend did this and a EF civic fell on him. luckily he only broke his jaw. there were 3 people near the car when it happened, and they lifted the car up enough for him to get out.
