Dealership difficulties

first off, I'm a new member and I love this site, everyday I check out the new posts, I have an 06 cobalt ls. But heres my question, I live in Reno Nevada and I want to purchase the SS/SC, my local dealership has 6 of them currently on the lot, and have been sitting since the 1st of Jan. They are way over priced at 25k probubly why nobody wanted them, I'm 20 years old (soon to be 21) and am still considered a first time buyer. I aleady have the LS which my Mother drives and pays for,(The car is under my name), and I know they will deny me credit for the SS/SC because of the LS. I think the dealership is probubly getting nervous about having all those o6's on the lot at the end of the year. IMO, Anyone with dealership knowledge that could give me pointers that would be great. Sorry about the long post and I hope this is a good section for this post. Oh and by the way please no flaming on the whole mom and car issue, Reno is a tough town to live in for people that have addictive personalities. Great to visit, but thats about it. Thanks in advance.

Reno 911 rocks! ok. tell them to give you a fuc@king deal. the '06's around here are almost gone. dealers are eager to get rid of them to make room for the '07's. the more they wait, the more they lose $$$$. you have to be mean to these guys. dont take $hit. tell them WHAT YOU WANT. just flat out say it. say "iwant this" and if they can't provide, then tell them you'll walk. if they want you're business, they'll work with you.

Even if they swing you a deal make sure you don't get in over your head financially. Check with your insurance agent to see what they're gonna stick you to insure the model you want. Your age, marital status and car you want make you a prime candidate for MF'N high rates. Dealers can find any car you want and have it shipped in. If I WAS YOU I'd tell them you want a coupe and see what they can find that ain't classified a hot rod by insurance. Pay less initially and mod it yourself when you have extra $$$. IMHO.

I always find it funny when someone begs not to be flamed. lol

Anyway, if you really are interested in buying the car go in there and show them that. Remember your the boss and the deal gets done on your terms not theres. Car buying isn't the big scary thing everything thinks it is, but it can be if you don't know what you are doing. Look around and get some quotes from other dealers on the car you want with the options you want. Then go into the dealership with that and start negotiating. 25k is way too high and the dealer knows that. They are just hoping some sucker will come in there and pay that for it.

Unfortunately it doesn't really matter if your mom floats the bill for the LS. If the car is in your name, then what the banks do (this has nothing to do with what the dealership can do for you.) is compare your income to your bills. When they see another car financed on your credit sheet already, they'll look at your income to see if THEY feel like you can afford to have a second new car, and unless you're making some really good money or have really good credit, you're probably going to get turned down.

It would actually be better to see if your mom could refinance the car under her name, so you could get your own vehicle, but with her credit situation the way it is, it sounds like that may not be an option.

It sucks you're stuck in that situation, but the reality is, you'll be extremely lucky to find something workable, and you're walking into the dealership with the cards stacked against you, and they'll know that, which means even if they can get you into the car, you'll probably be squeezed pretty hard by the payments on it.

Another option might be to get your mom into a used car, and you can take back the LS and possibly do a trade-in on it when you can.

In reality though it's the bank you'll be dealing with on this matter, and not the dealership themselves. They may not be able to help you in your situation, right now.

Best time to go is the last weekend of the month. Go this weekend and see what you can do. Also, get pre-approved at your bank to see how much money you could get financed for before going to the dealer. This will tell you how much car you can afford and will help on negaotiating.
